According to reports from CNBC TV18, Allspring Global Investments' Emerging Markets Portfolio Manager Prashant Paroda describes the firm's current India position as 'conservatively cautiously optimistic'. The investment firm is now focusing on underperforming sectors where expectations are low and downside risk appears limited. As reported by CNBC TV18, Paroda explained that once geopolitical tensions resolve and inflation concerns subside, these laggard sectors could experience significant rallies. "We are looking at, sort of the laggards in the market, where expectations are low, and we are cautiously looking at whether the downside is limited, and once this war gets resolved and all the chatter about higher inflation sort of dies down, we could see a rally in those pockets as well," Paroda said.
As reported by CNBC TV18, Paroda highlighted that power and renewable energy stocks have rallied sharply and may be ahead of market expectations. The firm holds positions in some of India's largest power players, which have delivered strong performance this year. However, with some stocks moving sharply since March, private sector banks now appear more attractive as they have lagged throughout this period. According to the report, these banking stocks represent areas where expectations remain low and potential downside appears limited. "But these are sectors where there is some cyclical element as well as rather than structural elements. So if the stocks have run far ahead, then we think it's time to take some gains and look at parts of the markets which are private banks, which haven't done as well throughout this whole episode," Paroda noted.
According to CNBC TV18, Paroda expects geopolitical concerns to ease over time based on diplomatic developments. He pointed to diplomatic discussions involving China, Iran and the possibility of a visit by US President Donald Trump to China as signs that tensions may move toward resolution. As reported by CNBC TV18, Paroda noted that Chinese Premier and Foreign Minister actually met the Iranian Foreign Minister, indicating potential progress in regional diplomacy. "But if this gets resolved, and possibly there's a visit by President Trump to China in 10 days, and the Chinese Premier and Foreign Minister actually met the Iranian Foreign Minister. So we think there's a lot of stuff going on in the background, which makes us feel cautiously optimistic that this is coming to a close and a positive close," Paroda explained.
As reported by CNBC TV18, Allspring's bets in Taiwan and South Korea have performed well amid the ongoing AI-driven rally. The firm's positions in these markets have benefited from the ferocious comeback in global markets from March lows. Paroda noted that some stocks have rallied very abruptly and may be ahead of expectations, prompting the firm to consider taking gains in these sectors.
