Two Memoranda of Understanding were signed during the visit between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Business Finland, as well as between CII and the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK). According to reports from Business Standard, these agreements create new institutional mechanisms to promote industry collaboration and facilitate greater business engagement between India and Finland. The MoUs were signed on the sidelines of the Business Forum, establishing formal frameworks for enhanced bilateral cooperation. At the House of the Estates, the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK and the Confederation of Indian Industry CII also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on deeper cooperation, including the promotion of the benefits of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement among companies in the two countries.
The visit has significantly boosted the prospects for greater business engagement between India and Finland, with both countries committing to ambitious trade expansion goals. As reported by The Indian Awaaz, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal addressed the India-Finland Business Forum at the House of the Estates in Helsinki, where he underscored the shared vision of both countries to double bilateral trade by 2030. Minister Goyal emphasized that the India-EU Free Trade Agreement is a critical instrument that will unlock vast opportunities for manufacturing, innovation, and cross-border business partnerships. The institutional framework established through these MoUs will facilitate increased collaboration between businesses from both countries, providing a structured approach for companies to explore partnerships and investment opportunities across various sectors.
Indian and Finnish companies participated in sector-specific interactions covering multiple technology and industry areas. As reported by Business Standard, these discussions focused on digital and frontier technologies, space, clean energy, bio-economy, circular economy, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. The sector-specific approach allowed companies from both nations to explore opportunities for collaboration, investment, and technology partnerships across various high-growth sectors. At the roundtable event, Finnish and Indian companies, including a good number of leading Finnish companies representing relevant sectors, had the opportunity to showcase their operations and explore partnerships across digital technologies, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and sustainable development.
Minister Goyal's visit emphasized the key themes of digital and new advanced technologies, advanced manufacturing, clean energy and sustainable development, and food and consumer industries. During bilateral meetings with Minister of Finance Riikka Purra and Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto, discussions centered on Finland's world-class expertise in 5G and 6G technology, semiconductor and space technology, clean energy and environmental technology, and the use of artificial intelligence. Minister Puisto highlighted that the Indian market offers plenty of potential for Finnish operators in both traditional and newer sectors, including opportunities for the Finnish food sector and its innovations in India. On Friday 17 July, Minister Goyal visited leading Finnish technology and innovation organisations such as Nokia, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, KONE and Kemppi Group.
The visit takes place at an important stage in India-EU relations, with both parties committed to strengthening economic cooperation and promoting the swift implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between India and the EU. The visit builds on the elevation of India-Finland relations to a Strategic Partnership in Digitalisation and Sustainability during the State Visit of President of the Republic Aleksander Stubb to India in March 2026 and follows the conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement on 27 January 2026. The engagements on the first day of the visit reflect the growing momentum in India-Finland economic relations and reaffirm the commitment of both countries to building a resilient, innovation-driven and future-oriented partnership. The visit concluded with a networking reception hosted by the Embassy of India in Helsinki, providing an opportunity for business leaders, policymakers and stakeholders from both countries to further strengthen institutional and commercial ties.
