Uttar Pradesh has announced plans to develop six textile parks across nearly 1,500 acres, targeting investments exceeding ₹10,000 crore and creating thousands of jobs. According to reports from Business Standard, these projects are designed to bolster the state's $1 trillion economy goal through large-scale manufacturing and processing capabilities.
The flagship project involves a mega textile park spanning 1,162 acres located on the borders of Lucknow and Hardoi districts under the PM Mega Integrated Textile and Apparel (PM Mitra) scheme. As reported by Business Standard, this facility is expected to house about 400 textile manufacturing and processing plants, with major companies including Reliance Industries, Arvind Mills, Vardhman, and Ahuja Textile planning to establish units there.
Five additional textile parks will be established over 326 acres under the state's Sant Kabir Textile and Apparel Park Scheme across Varanasi, Amroha, Bareilly, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Bijnor districts. According to Business Standard, these projects will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the Yogi Adityanath government aiming to attract big-ticket investments and create employment opportunities.
The Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) has submitted the pre-feasibility report for the Varanasi textile park, while reports for the remaining four parks are currently being prepared. As reported by Business Standard, these reports will be finalised after incorporating suggestions from industry stakeholders, with the government emphasising compliance with environmental standards. PPP tender documents are being drafted for the selection of 'master developers' for these projects.
The official noted that the Sant Kabir Textile and Apparel Park Scheme will provide Uttar Pradesh with a new identity in textile manufacturing, ready-made garments, technical textiles, and exports. This announcement comes alongside the Centre's recent approval of 96 companies under round-III of the Textile PLI scheme, which is estimated to garner total investments of ₹12,822 crore and a projected turnover of more than ₹58,000 crore.
