Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate projects costing ₹22,655 crore across Surat, Gujarat, Daman and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on Friday. According to officials, Modi will arrive in Surat at around 2:45 pm and visit an industrial facility in the Hazira area before attending a public function at the indoor stadium. The projects being inaugurated represent a significant investment in Gujarat's industrial and infrastructure development, with the biggest component being the ₹18,000 crore investment in Surat. During his visit to Hazira, Modi will review ongoing industrial operations and infrastructure projects, demonstrating the operational scale of these developments.
The centrepiece in Surat is the dedication of Packages VI and VII of the 8-lane Access-Controlled Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, one of western India's most ambitious road projects. This expressway is aimed at boosting high-speed transportation, logistics efficiency and economic connectivity between Gujarat and Maharashtra. Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of critical sections on NH-56, a highway cutting through tribal regions of Gujarat. The upgraded road is expected to significantly improve connectivity for tribal communities while also boosting access to the Statue of Unity on the Narmada river.
On the power front, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Transmission Network Expansion in Gujarat, enhancing power evacuation capacity under the Inter-State Transmission System. He will also inaugurate power distribution upgrades under the Revamped Reforms-Based Distribution Sector Scheme in Valsad district. Industrial infrastructure receives attention with the inauguration of advanced effluent disposal and treatment facilities at Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region and Sarigam Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, along with essential layout utilities at the Jambusar Bulk Drug Park — part of the government's push to develop a dedicated pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster.
Following the Surat events, Modi will travel to Daman where he is scheduled to inaugurate the New Terminal Building of NAMO Airport, the first dedication of the evening. This facility is expected to significantly enhance regional air connectivity and stimulate economic activity in the coastal union territory. The airport inauguration will provide enhanced connectivity for the Union Territory. Modi will also inaugurate the 200-bedded ESIC Hospital in Surat, a significant addition to the region's healthcare infrastructure. The ESIC Hospital will provide comprehensive medical services to workers and their families, substantially strengthening access to quality healthcare for the industrial workforce in the region.
After the Daman events, Modi will proceed to Swami Vivekananda Ground to address a public gathering. During this event, he will virtually inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several development projects in the Union Territory. According to officials, this virtual component will allow the Prime Minister to participate in multiple project launches simultaneously, demonstrating the scale of infrastructure development across the region. These projects aim to strengthen connectivity, healthcare services, and economic growth across Gujarat, while improving access to tribal regions and the Statue of Unity.
