Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has provided significant updates on the Mumbai-Delhi freight corridor, announcing that the 157km Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway will be commissioned by August 31. According to recent reports, once operational, the expressway will reduce travel time between Vadodara and Mumbai from eight hours to approximately four hours. The 1,400km, eight-lane greenfield access-controlled expressway is being constructed by the Centre at a cost of approximately ₹1 lakh crore and will connect five states: Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The project's highlight is its direct connectivity with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), which will make freight transport from North India to JNPA faster, more efficient and less costly, providing a major boost to the country's logistics chain.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed concerned officers to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the country's first proposed offshore airport in Palghar. According to reports from CMO Maharashtra, the CM inspected the site and layout of this significant infrastructure project during his review of key infrastructure projects in Palghar. The proposed offshore airport will feature connectivity to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), the bullet train, the Uttan–Virar Sea Link, the Mumbai–Vadodara Expressway, and the Mumbai–Ahmedabad National Highway.
During the inspection, Fadnavis reviewed the proposed Vadhavan Port at Chinchani Beach, which is spread over 1,448 hectares with an estimated cost of ₹76,220 crore. As reported by CMO Maharashtra, this greenfield port is designed to handle next-generation vessels with a 20-metre-deep draft, making it capable of berthing the world's largest ships. The port is expected to generate 10 lakh jobs and will rank among the world's top 10 ports, handling cargo traffic at Vadhvan and Murmbe ports while reducing passenger pressure on Mumbai airport.
The CM also reviewed progress on the Uttan-Virar Sea Link, a proposed six-lane project worth approximately ₹58,754 crore that will directly connect to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway. According to the official release, this project will make travel between South Mumbai and Ahmedabad faster, safer, and more convenient. Fadnavis also inspected the Naringi Creek Bridge, which will establish direct connectivity between Vasai-Virar and cities including Saphale, Palghar, and Boisar, reducing travel distance by about 40 kilometres and travel time by 45 minutes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Fadnavis stated that these infrastructure projects are building the Fourth Mumbai, describing Palghar as Maharashtra's next growth engine. As reported by CMO Maharashtra, the CM emphasized that Palghar is not just part of Maharashtra's growth story but represents the chapter that will define it. The comprehensive development includes the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project at Boisar station and various connectivity improvements across the region, with the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway set to provide a fast, safe, and traffic jam-free travel experience that will boost commercial transport between major industrial belts of the country.
