The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has declared September 7 as the appointed date for the Agra-Gwalior Greenfield Road project, as confirmed by G R Infraprojects in a letter dated September 18, 2026. According to reports from Business Standard, the project will be executed under the government's National Highways (Original) scheme and structured as a public-private partnership using the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) pattern under the BOT (Toll) mode.
The project comprises two sections with significant infrastructure development. The first section involves development of a six-lane, access-controlled Agra-Gwalior greenfield highway, starting from design km 0+000 (near village Deori in district Agra) and extending 88.4+000 km (near village Susera in district Gwalior) in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The second section covers road safety improvements and resurfacing along a 90-kilometre stretch of the existing Agra-Gwalior highway (NH-44), spanning across the same three states, as detailed in the latest NHAI communication.
Estimated at ₹4,262.78 crore inclusive of GST, the project will be executed under the government's National Highways (Original) scheme. According to Business Standard, the private developer will entirely fund, construct, and maintain the highway, recovering its investment by collecting commuter tolls for a specified period before transferring ownership back to NHAI. The project has a construction timeline of 910 days (approximately 2.5 years) from the officially declared appointed start date.
Shares of G R Infraprojects Limited closed at ₹823.40 on the NSE on September 18, 2026, down ₹5.65 or 0.68%. As reported by CNBC TV18, the stock has fallen over 17% in the year so far, reflecting market sentiment following the project announcement.
