Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that investment commitments from American companies in the last six months are estimated to exceed USD 60 billion. According to reports from Business Standard, these commitments include major data centre investments by technology giants such as Amazon and Google. Goyal made these remarks at the Annual Leadership Summit of the American Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
As reported by Business Standard, Goyal emphasized that India and the United States have economies that complement each other with minimal competition, making the partnership stronger. The minister highlighted that when complementarity is combined with mutual trust, it creates an unbeatable combination capable of building trusted and resilient supply chains for the future. He stated that India provides a trusted framework for global companies and combines scale, talent and market opportunity in a manner unmatched globally.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor announced that the proposed bilateral trade agreement with India could be finalized within the coming weeks or months, significantly faster than the 19-year timeline it took to finalize India's free trade pact with the European Union in January. Speaking at the same American Chamber of Commerce event, Gor said the trade deal will expand market access, reduce barriers, and create greater certainty for businesses on both sides. The shared ambition of the US and India to achieve $500 billion in bilateral trade by 2030 reflects the confidence and connect between the two economies, with Gor noting that India's expanding manufacturing ecosystem, digital infrastructure, innovation capabilities, and skilled talent pool complement American leadership in technology, investment, advanced research, and entrepreneurship.
According to the latest reports, Goyal positioned India as offering a unique value proposition for international investors. He noted that India provides a trusted framework for global companies and combines scale, talent and market opportunity in a manner unmatched globally. The minister called the India-US relationship a defining partnership of the 21st century, with India's long-term economic transformation being driven by infrastructure expansion, renewable energy growth, digital adoption and flagship initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India and Digital India. Goyal asserted that India would remain the world's fastest-growing economy for at least the next 25 years.
