The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially extended the implementation timeline for mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) registration for television sets by six months. According to the notification issued on July 26, 2026, the compliance deadline has now been pushed to January 26, 2027, providing additional time to television manufacturers and importers to meet the regulatory requirement. The extension relates to product categories covered under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021.
The mandatory certification norms will now come into force on January 26, 2027, representing a six-month delay from the original implementation date of July 26, 2026. As per the MeitY notification, the implementation date of the order "stands extended to 26th January, 2027." The latest notification states that the implementation date of the order "stands extended to 26th January, 2027," with the revised deadline providing television manufacturers and importers with additional time to ensure their products meet the revised regulatory standards and comply with the mandatory BIS Compulsory Registration requirements.
