The Jharkhand government tabled a supplementary budget of ₹8,399 crore in the assembly for the current 2026-27 fiscal year on Friday. According to reports from Business Standard, Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore presented the first supplementary budget for this financial year during the assembly session. The budget presentation took place amid opposition protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment exams in the state, as reported by Business Standard, creating a challenging political environment for the budget presentation.
The supplementary budget presentation follows the annual budget of ₹1.58 trillion that was presented by Kishore in February for the 2026-27 financial year. As reported by Business Standard, this supplementary budget represents additional financial requirements beyond the original annual allocation. The budget presentation occurred during a period of opposition protests over various issues in the Lok Sabha, with the Zero Hour being disrupted and the House clearing the Bill in nearly 16-minute proceedings after meeting at 12 noon following the first adjournment of the day.
The Assembly's Monsoon session started on Thursday and will conclude on August 12. As reported by Business Standard, there are five working days during this session, with Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath informing the House about the session schedule. The debate on the demands is scheduled for August 10. The Lower House was later adjourned till Monday following the Lok Sabha proceedings.
The Government of India has accelerated the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, with a renewed focus on sustainable service delivery. As per the latest government data, ₹5,289.09 crore has been reimbursed as Central share to 10 States during FY 2026-27, while ₹865.87 crore has been released through SNA SPARSH across 13 States. The Union Cabinet approved JJM 2.0 on March 10, 2026, extending the Mission till December 2028 with enhanced focus on reliable drinking water services for rural households. JJM 2.0 marks a shift from infrastructure creation to assured service delivery through strengthened GP-led operation and maintenance of water supply systems, source sustainability, water quality surveillance, community ownership and digital governance. A major reform introduced under JJM 2.0 is the Scheme-based Payment and Release through SNA SPARSH platform that enables scheme-level fund release, expenditure tracking and real-time monitoring of financial progress.
