Wesley Batista Filho will assume the role of global chief executive officer at JBS NV starting January 2026, according to a Monday filing with regulators. As reported by Bloomberg, Batista Filho is the grandson of JBS founder Jose Batista Sobrinho and son of former top executive Wesley Batista. The transition represents a return to Batista family leadership after approximately eight years since the last family member held the top position.
The leadership change comes as JBS, the world's largest meat supplier, continues its strategic focus on the United States market. According to Bloomberg, Batista Filho has spent the past three years leading the company's US division and will now take over a company that's expanding globally with recent deals to grow operations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The US business remains a key focus, with a recent listing of shares in the US bringing the company closer to New York investors.
The move marks a significant milestone for the Batista family, which has transformed their Brazilian slaughterhouse business into a global empire spanning meatpacking, energy, mining, finance and consumer goods over the last two decades. As reported by Bloomberg, Batista Filho will replace Gilberto Tomazoni, who became JBS's first CEO from outside the Batista bloodline in 2018 following a corruption scandal that affected the family's most prominent members.
Gilberto Tomazoni will remain at the company as a vice chairman during the transition period, according to Bloomberg reports. The transition was planned for years, with Tomazoni noting that the leadership change was part of a multi-year succession plan. JBS has not announced details regarding future leadership at the US operation, though Batista Filho's experience leading the division through market turmoil and tight cattle supplies positions him well for the expanded global role.
