Ride-hailing firm Uber announced the launch of a train ticket booking service on its mobile application in partnership with travel platform ixigo on August 18. The new offering will enable riders to book train tickets, check their PNR status, and connect their first- and last-mile journeys in a single app. With this launch, Uber is expanding its portfolio of intercity travel options, leveraging ixigo's train booking technology and post-booking experience to make it easier for riders to plan their journeys through a single platform. The service is now available through a dedicated 'Bus & Train' section on the Uber app, where users can select train tickets, enter origin, destination, and travel dates, browse available options, complete bookings, and access ticket details and PNR status directly within the app. Users can book train tickets by following these steps: Select 'Bus & Train' from the home screen or the Services section, then choose train tickets, enter the origin, destination and travel date, browse the available trains and select the preferred option, complete the ticket booking within the app, and access ticket details and check the PNR status directly through Uber.
As reported by Business Standard, Arnab Kumar, director of business development at Uber India and South Asia, stated that 'Train journeys are an integral part of how India travels. For millions of people, the journey starts well before they board the train and continues long after they arrive at their destination.' The launch builds on Uber's presence at railway stations across India through dedicated pickup and drop-off zones from Ahmedabad in the West to Secunderabad in the south to Howrah in the east to many new big railway stations soon. By adding train ticket booking to the app, Uber is extending this experience beyond station connectivity and strengthening its multimodal mobility platform. Kumar emphasized that the partnership brings together ixigo's expertise in train ticketing with Uber's mobility platform, making the overall travel experience more seamless and convenient for riders. According to Kumar, the new feature will allow riders to book train tickets, check PNR status and arrange travel to and from railway stations within the Uber app without switching between apps. The integration enables passengers to plan their journey from their doorstep to their final destination while benefiting from ixigo's ticketing and post-booking services.
According to the joint statement from Uber and ixigo, Indian Railways carried 741 crore passengers in FY2025-26, making train travel one of the most preferred modes of long-distance transportation in the country. As reported by Business Standard, the online train ticketing market continues to grow, with the partnership aiming to make train travel more convenient by integrating ixigo's train ticket booking with Uber's first- and last-mile mobility services. The launch comes as Uber continues to expand its range of travel services in India, with its offerings now including moto, auto, cars, metro, intercity cars, intercity buses, and train ticket booking. Uber entered India in 2013 and currently operates in more than 225 cities across the country, with the company stating that more than two million Indians earn through its platform. The partnership marks another step in both companies' push to make India's increasingly multimodal travel ecosystem less fragmented, bringing the train journey closer to being a one-app affair.
As reported by Business Standard, Aloke Bajpai, group chief executive officer, and Rajnish Kumar, group co-chief executive officer of ixigo, emphasized their focus on making rail travel simpler, more reliable and stress-free. The partnership extends beyond ticket booking to include seamless post-booking experience, better customer support and innovative features that give travellers greater peace of mind throughout their journey. According to Bajpai, the partnership will allow passengers to plan their journey from their doorstep to their final destination while benefiting from ixigo's ticketing and post-booking services. The collaboration enables travellers to plan their journey seamlessly from their doorstep to their destination, combining ixigo's comprehensive train booking capabilities with Uber's reliable transportation services. With train ticketing now added to its portfolio, Uber's multimodal platform spans moto, auto, cars, metro, intercity cars, intercity buses, and train tickets, offering riders the ability to book the train, get to the station and get home at the other end, all through one app. As ixigo stated, 'As India's largest OTA in the train category, our focus has always been on making rail travel simpler, more reliable and stress-free... By partnering with Uber, we're extending that experience beyond the train itself, enabling travellers to plan their journey seamlessly from their doorstep to their destination'.
