Thomas Cook India has relaunched its One Currency Card with zero forex markup and cross-currency conversion charges, targeting frequent international travellers looking for a prepaid foreign exchange payment option. The company announced that the card will be available through multiple digital channels including its website, mobile app, WhatsApp, call centre and Blinkit, making it more accessible to customers seeking convenient international payment solutions. According to the latest reports, this relaunch represents a strategic shift to disrupt the travel finance market and capture the growing outbound travel segment, with the company transitioning from traditional markup-led revenue models to volume-driven acquisition.
The relaunched card combines the convenience of modern travel cards with the inherent advantages of a prepaid forex card, including the ability to lock in foreign exchange rates before travel. As reported by Business Standard, this provides customers protection against currency volatility, which has been a key concern amid the heightened fluctuations witnessed across global currencies this year. The card offers zero forex markup on card loading, zero cross-currency conversion charges across supported currencies, and customers can preload USD and lock exchange rates before travel. The card is accepted in more than 200 countries and territories where Mastercard is supported, and offers secure contactless payments via Google Pay Tap & Pay. Additionally, the card provides complimentary insurance cover of up to ₹7.5 lakh, emergency cash assistance, and free card replacement in case the card is lost or stolen during travel. The enhanced features now include 10% cashback on eligible spends at brands including McDonald's, Starbucks, KFC, Grab, Uber, 7 Eleven, and Careem.
Deepesh Varma, Chief Business Officer - Foreign Exchange, Thomas Cook (India) Limited, stated that today's travellers are far more value-conscious and digitally savvy when it comes to international spending. According to Business Standard, he emphasized that the Zero Markup Forex Card has been designed to address the very specific needs of today's traveller by combining zero markup and zero cross-currency conversion charges with the unique advantage of locking in exchange rates before travel. As per Travel And Tour World, he said the Zero Markup Forex Card has been specifically designed to offer better control over overseas spending while protecting customers from unpredictable exchange rate movements. He added that international travellers have become increasingly price-conscious while expecting greater digital convenience, and the initiative reinforces Thomas Cook India's long-standing position as a specialist in foreign exchange services while reflecting the company's continued emphasis on innovation, customer convenience and value-driven travel financial products.
The relaunch reiterates Thomas Cook's position as 'India ka Forex Specialist' and reflects the company's sustained focus on innovation and elevated customer experience. As reported by Business Standard, this launch demonstrates the company's commitment to providing comprehensive foreign exchange solutions tailored to meet the evolving needs of modern travelers in the current volatile currency environment. The strategic shift to counter fintech disruption in the forex ecosystem positions Thomas Cook to compete more effectively in the digital-first travel finance market. According to latest reports, the company is increasing focus on cross-selling holiday packages through financial product entry points, with the potential for higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) through integrated travel services. In a high-interest-rate environment, the float on these cards also provides an incremental treasury advantage, while the company's existing infrastructure in holiday planning and insurance allows it to leverage robust margins in these adjacent services.
