According to reports from Paytm, the company has launched online income tax return filing services through its app in partnership with ClearTax. The initiative is designed to make tax filing easier for individual taxpayers by offering a seamless end-to-end digital filing experience. The service is available under the 'Free Tools' section of the Paytm app, with the ITR filing experience now live and accessible through the app's interface. The partnership comes ahead of the income tax return filing deadline and aims to simplify the filing process for individuals who may find tax compliance complex.
As reported by Paytm, the entry-level ₹11 plan allows users to file their returns using ClearTax's automated filing system. The platform imports tax information available with the Income Tax Department to pre-fill return details, streamlining the filing process for users. ClearTax is trusted by over 8 million taxpayers, bringing their automated online ITR filing experience to taxpayers exclusively through the Paytm platform. The service is designed to streamline filing for both salaried individuals and investors, with the offering positioned as a low-cost option for taxpayers who would otherwise pay significantly more for assisted filing services.
According to Paytm, the service offers comprehensive features including pre-filled tax details, broker integration, and post-filing notice assistance through the Paytm app. The platform automatically selects the relevant ITR form and tax regime based on the taxpayer's profile, providing personalized guidance throughout the filing process. For investors, the service allows one-click import of trade data from more than 80 brokers, with capital gains calculations automated following the import process. ClearTax's AI technology can detect and update parsing codes when brokers change statement formats, processing files without human intervention. The low price makes the service particularly attractive for salaried employees with income reported through Form 16, bank interest and standard deductions.
Every filing through Paytm, including the ₹11 plan, comes with complimentary Notice Protection from ClearTax. This means ClearTax's assistance continues after the income tax return has been submitted, helping taxpayers understand notices, preparing responses, and providing assistance until matters are resolved. As per ClearTax Founder and CEO Archit Gupta, the partnership addresses the two primary barriers - cost and complexity - that prevent people from filing taxes on time. The assistance includes explaining notices, preparing responses, and providing support until resolution, with the biggest advantage being convenience as tax filing can now be completed within an app many already use for payments.
The ITR filing experience is live on the Paytm app and can be accessed through the 'Free Tools' section. Users can file taxes on Paytm by following these steps: 1. On the Paytm app home page, scroll down to the Free Tools section. 2. Select 'File your ITR with ClearTax.' 3. Enter your email to receive a one-time password (OTP). 4. Enter the OTP to log in and begin filing. A Paytm spokesperson emphasized that income tax filing is an important part of managing personal finances, and the partnership aims to make it simpler and more accessible for every Indian through automated filing and assistance beyond submission. However, experts caution that while the low price makes the service attractive, taxpayers should verify their return carefully before submitting it. They should verify that all sources of income, deductions, capital gains, exempt income and tax credits have been captured correctly, particularly for individuals with multiple employers, foreign assets, rental income, business income or complex capital gains transactions.
