The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched two agentic artificial intelligence platforms at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai on September 9. According to reports from CNBC TV18, TechGig, and Moneycontrol, the platforms are designed to use AI to automate enterprise workflows and processes across India's digital payments ecosystem. The launches come as NPCI increasingly explores AI and other emerging technologies to strengthen the country's digital payments infrastructure, with the platforms aimed at using AI to automate enterprise workflows and processes related to India's digital payments ecosystem.
AiNxt is positioned as an enterprise-grade platform for building and deploying AI agents, following a bring-your-own-model (BYOM) approach. As reported by TechGig and Moneycontrol, the platform comprises AiNxt OS, AiNxt Code, AiNxt CLI and AiNxt Enterprise tools designed to support developers in building, testing and deploying AI applications. The platform offers no-code, low-code and developer-oriented options for creating and customising AI agents, supporting different AI models for various applications. The AiNxt suite includes AiNxt OS, AiNxt Code and AiNxt CLI designed to support software development workflows, including building, testing and deploying AI applications across integrated development environments and command-line interfaces. AiNxt is open source, providing flexibility for users to access, modify, and extend it while retaining control over the models they utilise.
The Agentic Orchestration & Messaging (AtOM) platform focuses on agent-to-agent orchestration with specific applications within the payments ecosystem. According to TechGig and Moneycontrol, AtOM can manage processes including system integration, change management, partner onboarding, testing and certification through a single workflow. The platform is initially intended to support UPI ecosystems, where changes often need to be implemented and certified across multiple banks and payment service providers. AtOM uses machine-readable and digitally signed interactions that can support compliance and audit requirements, with its architecture based on JSON-RPC 2.0 and potentially extendable to other NPCI products and payment systems. NPCI expects AtOM to significantly help banks and payment service providers accelerate the rollout of new UPI feature changes by reducing manual effort, streamlining testing and certification procedures, and improving coordination among ecosystem participants.
India's payments authority is building a registry to verify and monitor artificial intelligence agents making transactions on its homegrown payments network, according to sources involved in the discussions. As reported by The Economic Times, Reuters, and The Times of India, the registry will form part of the National Payments Corporation of India's proposed Unified Agentic Protocol and vet AI agents that make payments on behalf of users. The registry will initially vet AI agents making payments on UPI and could later cover cards, bill payments and other payment methods, with the system potentially allowing agents to act on more complex instructions such as buying products when discounts reach specified levels or making investments when prices cross set thresholds. This initiative aligns with global developments, as China's Payment & Clearing Association has issued guidelines for AI-agent payments, while Amazon, Google and Microsoft have also developed agent registries for agentic commerce.
