NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has introduced MyUPI, a conversational artificial intelligence (AI)-powered assistant for the BHIM Payments App. According to reports from Mint, the feature was launched at Global Fintech Fest 2026 and is now available 24/7 in the BHIM app. The assistant is designed to bring several UPI support, transaction management and safety features into a single interface. NPCI announced the feature on September 22, 2026, making it officially available through the 'Quick Actions' section of the BHIM app. However, this launch comes amid a broader crisis in AI agent identity verification, with Amazon blocking Meta's Muse agent from its marketplace citing unauthorized access and security concerns over how AI agents identify themselves and handle customer credentials.
MyUPI is currently available in five languages including English, Telugu, Hindi, Bengali and Tamil. As reported by Mint, NBSL plans to add more regional languages over time. The assistant allows users to explain their UPI-related requirements in everyday language, reducing the need to fill out detailed forms or switch between multiple support channels. Payment-related actions will continue to require authentication through the user's UPI PIN, ensuring the conversational interface does not replace existing authentication requirements for eligible payment actions.
According to the latest reports, MyUPI offers 24x7 transaction replay, payee verification, UPI Number de-linking and fraud-awareness assistance. Users can view UPI transactions across linked bank accounts and UPI apps in one place and seek assistance for specific payments. The feature enables users to enter a UPI ID or upload a QR code to check and verify the payee name before making a payment through the Pay Safe feature. MyUPI provides a consolidated view of recurring payments and mandates across linked accounts and applications, allowing users to pause, resume or cancel an Autopay mandate where applicable. The assistant also supports eligible payment-related complaints with users able to raise a complaint, receive a reference number and track its progress through BHIM.
Users can raise and track complaints through MyUPI with a complaint reference number and monitor their progress within the BHIM app. The assistant provides conversational assistance on suspected scam messages and commonly reported UPI fraud methods. In cases of lost phone, suspected account compromise, unexpected debit or suspicious message, users can block a linked bank account through MyUPI to prevent further transactions. Additionally, users can re-initiate eligible earlier UPI payments, including P2P and P2M transactions originally made through another UPI app, with fresh authentication required. The UPI Number de-linking feature allows users to remove their mobile number from their UPI Number if they do not want to receive payments through it.
The launch of MyUPI occurs as India addresses similar identity verification challenges for AI agents in financial transactions. Earlier this month, NPCI temporarily put its Unified Agentic Protocol (UAP) on hold while working through regulatory clearance and safeguards, according to Business Standard. The UAP framework could allow AI agents to make small UPI payments without requiring user approval for every individual transaction. Reuters reports that NPCI is working on a registry to verify and monitor AI agents making payments on UPI, with the registry initially covering UPI and potentially extending to cards, bill payments and other payment methods. This proposed registry addresses the same identification problems that Amazon encountered with Meta's Muse agent, where payment systems need to know which agent is acting, which user authorized it, and where responsibility lies if transactions are disputed.
