The Nifty traded above the 23,900 level, supported by the easing of geopolitical tensions and a sharp decline in crude oil prices. From the 30-Sensex firms, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Hindustan Unilever, Tech Mahindra and Tata Consultancy Services were among the biggest winners, while Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Power Grid and UltraTech Cement were among the laggards.
Barring metal shares, all sectoral indices on the NSE were traded in green with IT, media and realty shares leading the gains. As reported by The Hindu, Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded 0.32% lower at $82.90 per barrel, providing significant relief to Indian markets. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned buyers on Monday (June 15, 2026) as they bought equities worth ₹200.05 crore, according to exchange data. The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper shed 0.09% to 6.866 compared with the previous session close of 6.872. In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar, hovering at 94.5750 compared with its close of 95.5800 during the previous trading session. According to Business Standard, MCX Gold futures for 5 August 2026 settlement rose 0.15% to ₹1,53,161. The US Dollar Index (DXY) was up 0.06% to 99.69, while the United States 10-year bond yield rose 0.07% to 4.468. Brent crude for August 2026 settlement fell 25 cents or 0.30% to $82.92 a barrel, with the key Strait of Hormuz passageway expected to reopen on Friday in a toll-free manner for the long term. Crude oil remained in focus after extending recent declines, with Brent crude futures trading at $79.25 per barrel and the June contract on the Intercontinental Exchange quoted 0.37% higher.
Asian markets traded mixed on Wednesday as investors remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy announcement. The rate-setting committee is widely expected to keep the federal funds target rate unchanged at 3.5–3.75%.
Dhanlaxmi Bank advanced 1.52% after the bank's board of directors approved the appointment of Krishnakumar K. as chief financial officer for three years, effective from June 15, 2026. As reported by Business Standard, HCL Technologies jumped 2.27% after acquiring a 10.46% stake in Axonwise (Sarvam AI) for ₹1,427.25 crore to strengthen AI capabilities.
