
The Indian equity markets closed higher on June 22, with the 30-share BSE SENSEX rising 291.17 points or 0.38% to close at 77,094.07, while the 50-share NSE NIFTY edged higher by 0.37% or 89.80 points to end at 24,102.90. During the session, the SENSEX surged as much as 0.68% to hit an intraday high of 77,325.56, while the NIFTY50 reached the session's peak of 24,168.05. The NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge also advanced by 0.34% or 211.80 points to end at 62,729.10, as reported by The Economic Times.
Cipla emerged as the top performer, closing 4.82% higher after analysts at City highlighted that approvals like the gFlovent (Goa facility) and the upcoming gVentolin launch are key near-term triggers for the company. The pharmaceutical giant's Nintedanib's market share has neared 50% in the United States, while the re-inspection and potential USFDA clearance of its Indore plant are significant upside catalysts. Other notable gainers included Tech Mahindra (2%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories (1.56%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.39%) and Bajaj Auto (1.39%). On the downside, Asian Paints closed 2.17% lower, followed by selling in Titan Company (-1.32%), Nestle India (-1.06%), Shriram Finance (-0.99%) and Trent (-0.96%).
The NIFTY Midcap 100 index advanced by 0.34% or 211.80 points to end at 62,729.10, supported by strong performances across multiple sectors. Mankind Pharma led the gains with 5.34%, followed by Aditya Birla Capital (4.36%), Tata Communications (4.09%), Jubilant Foodworks (3.44%) and Bharat Forge (3.31%). Notably, Bharat Forge hit its 52-week high after securing a ₹425 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence for gas turbine generators to the Indian Navy over 5 years. The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced by 0.60% or 112.55 points to close at 18,897, with Triveni Turbine leading at 8.97%, followed by Aegis Logistics (5.58%), IDBI Bank (5.45%), Urban Company (5.42%) and Delhivery (5.10%).
Among the top losers in the midcap segment, Steel Authority of India declined 3.39%, followed by IndusInd Bank (-3.02%), LG Electronics India (-2.72%), Waaree Energies (-2.09%) and Yes Bank (-1.81%). In the smallcap space, Five-Star Business Finance fell 3.17%, while Himadri Speciality Chemical (-3.14%), Piramal Finance (-2.93%), IFCI (-2.72%) and Aster DM Healthcare (-2.64%) were among the other notable decliners, as reported by The Economic Times.
