The S&P BSE Sensex opened in red during the pre-opening session, experiencing a loss of 58.08 points or 0.08 per cent. According to reports from Dalal Street Investment Journal, Indian benchmark indices signalled a subdued start with the frontline index trading lower. The market showed mixed sectoral performance, with power stocks rising 0.26 per cent while metals declined 0.16 per cent and auto stocks gained 0.06 per cent. By 9:19 AM IST, the Sensex declined 532.35 points to 77,619.10 and the Nifty 50 fell 142.40 points to 24,191.90, reflecting broader market weakness amid global oil dynamics and domestic earnings concerns.
Three companies emerged as the top gainers on BSE during the pre-opening session. Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd surged 6.21 per cent to trade at ₹17.95 apiece after announcing its Q1FY27 results. Sobha Ltd gained 5.68 per cent to trade at ₹1,538.05 apiece, while Action Construction Equipment Ltd climbed 4.73 per cent to trade at ₹1,036.90 apiece after announcing its Q1FY27 results. In the broader market, Tech Mahindra led large-cap gains, rising around 2.2%, with other notable movers including Airtel, ICICI Bank, HCL Tech, and SBI trading higher, indicating stock-specific dynamics despite the overall market decline.
Sobha Ltd reported exceptional financial performance for Q1FY27, with quarterly Real Estate sales value reaching a record ₹3,656 crore, registering a 76 per cent year-on-year growth. As reported by Dalal Street Investment Journal, the company's revenue increased 48 per cent YoY to ₹1,330 crore, while profit after tax (PAT) surged 274 per cent YoY to ₹51 crore. Collections stood at ₹1,924 crore, up 8 per cent YoY, supported by strong demand for premium homes. The company sold 2.34 million sq. ft. area during the quarter, reflecting a 62 per cent YoY increase, and launched 6.89 million sq. ft. of saleable area across three projects in two cities.
The market's performance was characterized by significant sectoral rotation, with Nifty Private Bank declining around 2.5% while Nifty Pharma rose about 0.72% and Nifty Metal gained roughly 0.70%. According to market reports, this sectoral divergence reflects mixed sentiment across different segments, with financials under pressure while defensive sectors showed resilience. The broader market indices traded in a narrow band, with Nifty MidCap 100 down 0.02% and Nifty SmallCap 100 down 0.09%, indicating that the pullback was not isolated to large-cap names and warranted caution across the spectrum.
The market's weakness was compounded by global factors, with Brent crude topping the $90-per-barrel level amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and US strikes against Iranian targets continuing into the ninth night. July crude futures price was quoted at $90.23 per barrel, up 2.4% for the session, highlighting the energy price backdrop that can impact corporate earnings and investment sentiment. For retail investors, the current session underscores the importance of maintaining capital discipline, diversifying across sectors, and using dips to selectively add to high-quality holdings while monitoring key barometers like Axis Bank share price as a gauge of banking-sector risk appetite.
