According to reports from Business Standard, the broader market showed strong performance with the BSE 150 MidCap Index rising 0.33% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rallying 0.56%. Market breadth remained strongly positive with 2,338 shares rising and 1,290 shares falling on the BSE, while 216 shares remained unchanged. The modest gains came despite increased volatility expectations as reflected in the NSE's India VIX, which advanced 2.52% to 13.38.
The Nifty Media index surged 3.48% to 1,529.85, marking a significant turnaround from its 2.69% decline in the past three consecutive trading sessions. As reported by Business Standard, major media sector gains included Zee Entertainment Enterprises (up 5.14%), Prime Focus (up 5%), Network 18 Media & Investments (up 4.56%), Hathway Cable & Datacom (up 3.59%), PVR Inox (up 3.36%), D B Corp (up 3.18%), Tips Music (up 2.62%), Sun TV Network (up 1.51%), Saregama India (up 0.95%) and Nazara Technologies (up 0.30%). This sectoral performance contributed significantly to the overall market momentum.
Waterways Leisure Tourism shares were trading at ₹716 at 10:18 IST on the BSE, representing a discount of 11.48% compared to the issue price of ₹808. The stock had debuted at ₹690, marking a discount of 14.6% to the issue price, with the stock hitting a high of ₹722 and a low of ₹690. According to Business Standard, Advit Jewels shares were currently trading at ₹178 at 10:12 IST on the BSE, representing a premium of 29.20% as compared with the issue price of ₹138. The stock debuted at ₹187, marking a premium of 35.51% to the issue price, with over 5.44 lakh shares traded in the counter so far.
India's forex reserves increased by $963 million to $672.587 billion during the week ended June 19, as reported by the Reserve Bank of India on Friday. However, foreign currency assets decreased by $3.072 billion to $541.217 billion, while the value of gold reserves increased significantly by $4.110 billion to $107.930 billion during the same period. The Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) were down $52 million to $18.647 billion, and India's reserve position with the IMF slipped $22 million to $4.793 billion in the reporting week, according to the apex bank's data.
VST Tillers Tractors added 0.07% after reporting a 3.02% year-on-year increase in total sales for June 2026, with overall volumes rising to 8,107 units from 7,869 units in June 2025. Lupin advanced 2.57% after receiving tentative approval from the USFDA for its ANDA for Enzalutamide Tablets, while Refex Industries added 2.60% after securing an order worth approximately ₹21.15 crore.
