According to reports from The Economic Times, the SENSEX declined as much as 0.5% to hit an intraday low of 77,684.37, while the NIFTY50 dropped as much as 0.4% to reach the session's low of 24,296.80. At 12:55 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX slumped by 210.21 points, or 0.27%, to trade at 77,869.65, while NSE's NIFTY50 stood at 24,349.50, reflecting a 46.35-point, or 0.19% fall. The decline was further dampened by crude oil prices edging higher amid uncertainties over Middle East supply disruptions, as two of the UAE's Abu Dhabi Oil Company (ADNOC) vessels were attacked while transiting through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. Foreign investors extended their selling streak, offloading ₹511 crore of Indian equities on Thursday, adding to the market pressure, but FIIs reversed course on Friday, turning net buyers of ₹508 crore compared to the previous session's selling of ₹511 crore.
Consumer durable stocks emerged as the standout performers in an otherwise subdued market, with the Nifty Consumer Durable index surging 15% over the past three months, significantly outperforming the Nifty 50's 2.7% rise. According to Business Standard, the index hit a 52-week high of 40,749.25, up 1.1% during intraday trading, surpassing its previous high of 40,631.15 touched on August 3, 2026. LG Electronics India surged 9.6% to hit a record high of ₹1,736.40 on the NSE after announcing strong Q1FY27 earnings, while Voltas and Bata India rallied 4% each, with Havells India, Amber Enterprises, Dixon Technologies and Titan Company trading up to 2% higher. The sector's outperformance reflects strong fundamentals and positive growth prospects in the consumer durables space.
LG Electronics India gained nearly 10% to touch a record high of ₹1,736.40 on the NSE on Friday, August 14, following the announcement of exceptional Q1FY27 earnings. The household appliances manufacturing firm reported revenue from operations growing 15.5% year-on-year to ₹7,234 crore, though it declined 10.2% quarter-on-quarter due to seasonality. The home appliances segment (washing machine, fridge and AC) grew 13.6% YoY to ₹5,577 crore, while the home entertainment segment (TV) grew 22.3% YoY to ₹1,657 crore. EBITDA came in at ₹905 crore with margins at 12.5%, expanding 108 bps YoY and 77 bps QoQ, with profit after tax increasing 27% YoY to ₹654 crore. As per ICICI Securities, the company demonstrated strong operational efficiency with gross margins remaining stable despite commodity and currency volatility. The latest reports show EBITDA increased 26% to ₹904 crore and the operating margin expanded to 12.50% from 11.44%, supported by higher volumes, premium products and stronger home entertainment demand.
Welspun Living shares climbed as much as 11.4% to hit a 52-week high of ₹178 per unit on the NSE on Friday, August 14, a day after reporting its earnings for the first quarter of FY27. The company recorded an 84% YoY rise in its consolidated net profit to ₹160.7 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, as against ₹87.5 crore in Q1 FY26. Galaxy Surfactants shares soared 20% to hit an upper circuit of ₹2,508.40 apiece after the specialty chemicals company reported strong quarterly results, with consolidated net profit increasing 110% to ₹166 crore in Q1 FY27 compared to ₹79 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year. The firm's revenue from operations grew 39% to ₹1,782 crore in the June quarter, as against ₹1,278 crore registered in the year-ago period. Apex Frozen Foods jumped nearly 17% by midday after Q1 FY27 EBITDA nearly doubled to ₹31 crore from ₹16 crore a year earlier, while profit after tax increased 137% to ₹21 crore, with EBITDA margin doubling to 12% from 6%.

LEAP India listed at a premium of 4.40% on the BSE and 4.33% on the NSE against its ₹159 IPO issue price, with the ₹2,480 crore IPO subscribed 8.38 times.
