
The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 800.62 points or 1.08% to 74,627.70 at 12:25 IST, while the Nifty 50 index rose 203.20 points or 0.88% to 23,364.80. According to Business Standard, the broader market indices significantly outperformed the frontline indices with BSE 150 MidCap Index climbing 1.15% and BSE 250 SmallCap Index rallying 1.63%. Market breadth remained negative with 2,893 shares rising and 1,088 shares falling on the BSE, while 195 shares remained unchanged. The Nifty Consumer Durables index jumped 1.32% to 34,618.55, recovering from its decline of 2.31% in the past two trading sessions.
Consumer durables emerged as the top performing sector, jumping 1.32% as reported by Business Standard, with major stocks experiencing significant gains. PG Electroplast surged 4.98%, Kalyan Jewellers India rose 2.09%, Titan Company gained 1.99%, Havells India advanced 1.36%, Blue Star climbed 1.16%, Dixon Technologies (India) rose 0.92%, Voltas gained 0.9%, Bata India increased 0.83%, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals rose 0.53%, and Kajaria Ceramics advanced 0.34%. Other notable gains included Whirlpool of India, Amber Enterprises India, and Amber Enterprises India down 1.51%, Blue Star falling 1.48%, Kajaria Ceramics declining 0.95%, Havells India down 0.85%, and Voltas falling 0.84%. Metal, realty and auto indices also remained under pressure, while healthcare, pharma, FMCG and media indices traded largely flat.
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, shed 0.41% to 15.57, indicating reduced market uncertainty. The Nifty 30 June 2026 futures were trading at 23,380, at a premium of 15.2 points as compared with the spot at 23,364.80. The Nifty option chain for the 30 June 2026 expiry showed a maximum call OI of 82.7 lakh contracts at the 24,000 strike price, while a maximum put OI of 52.6 lakh contracts was seen at the 23,000 strike price.
PCBL Chemical rose 2.36% after the company announced that it has commissioned a new specialty production line with a gross capacity of 20,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) at its Mundra plant in Gujarat. Sagility added 1.50% after its step-down subsidiary, Sagility LLC, signed a definitive agreement to acquire US-based CareSeed, a healthcare analytics firm. The acquisition aligns with Sagility's strategy to strengthen healthcare quality measurement and risk adjustment capabilities and expand into STAR performance management and care gap closure services. Market breadth remained weak with nearly 72 stocks touching their 52-week highs, while 63 hit fresh 52-week lows, while 75 stocks were locked in the upper circuit and 95 hit the lower circuit limit.
