
Indian benchmark indices opened on a mildly positive note on Friday, with the BSE Sensex rising about 26 points and crossing 77,950, while the NSE Nifty50 inched up 30 points and tested 24,350 as of 9:15 AM. According to latest reports, at around 9:01 AM, the Sensex was trading at 77,973.05, up 44.90 points or 0.06 per cent, while the Nifty gained 86.10 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 24,403.25. The positive opening was driven by strong global cues after technology stocks rallied across Wall Street and Asian markets. GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,447, up 89 points, indicating a higher opening for Indian benchmark indices. Market participants are expected to keep a close watch on global technology stocks, corporate earnings, commodity prices and overseas market trends through the trading session.
Exide Industries emerged as the top performer, gaining 5.5% to hit a 52-week high of ₹459.90 as the company's net profit jumped 28% to ₹351 crore in Q1 FY27 compared to ₹275 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. As reported by The Economic Times, the company's revenue from operations came in at ₹5,528.4 crore, registering 18% growth as against ₹4,695 crore YoY. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) rose 3% to touch an intraday high of ₹3,327 as the auto major reported its Q1 FY27 earnings, with consolidated net profits surging around 34% to ₹5,454.54 crore in the first quarter of FY27, compared to ₹4,083.32 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Asian markets posted strong gains after upbeat earnings from US technology giants fuelled buying across semiconductor and technology stocks. South Korea's Kospi surged more than 13 per cent in early trade, with heavyweight chipmakers SK Hynix witnessing sharp gains of around 25 per cent and Samsung Electronics gaining 20 per cent. Japan's Nikkei 225 climbed 5.35 per cent, while China's CSI 100 advanced 1.83 per cent, reflecting broad-based optimism across regional markets. US equities ended Thursday's session with strong gains after better-than-expected quarterly results from Amazon and Microsoft reinforced confidence in the technology sector. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.19 per cent, while the S&P 500 gained 1.66 per cent. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite outperformed, jumping 2.78 per cent, lifting global risk appetite with investors expecting technology stocks to remain in focus.
The auto sector emerged as a key driver of Thursday's market rally, with Tata Motors leading the charge with a 6% gain following strong quarterly results. According to latest reports, the company reported consolidated net profit of ₹1,649 crore for Q1 FY27, marking a 17% increase from ₹1,422 crore in the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki shares rose 3% as the country's largest carmaker reported consolidated net profit of ₹2,567 crore for Q1 FY27, marking a 13% increase from ₹2,266 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The auto sector's strong performance was supported by robust demand and improved operational efficiency across major players.
Oil & gas stocks rallied strongly, with ONGC leading gains at 5% following robust quarterly results. The company reported consolidated net profit of ₹4,350 crore for Q1 FY27, marking a 16% increase from ₹3,740 crore in the same period last year. Metal stocks also performed well, with Tata Steel gaining 3% as the company reported consolidated net profit of ₹2,260 crore for Q1 FY27, marking a 12% increase from ₹2,010 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The sectoral strength was driven by improved commodity prices and better operational performance across major metal companies.
