According to latest reports, the Nifty 50 closed Friday's session 95.15 points or 0.39% higher at 24,270.85, while the BSE Sensex surged 261.79 points or 0.34% to close at 77,763.91. The recovery follows Friday's cautious opening when Nifty 50 opened at 25,459.85, down 36.70 points or 0.14%, and BSE Sensex began at 82,220.48, lower by 28.13 points or 0.03%. Market experts noted that global developments are currently shaping domestic sentiment, with IT emerging as the worst-performing sector, followed by the IT-dependent real estate segment.
Among sectoral indices, all except Nifty IT were trading in the red on Friday, as per ANI reports. Nifty IT gained 1.66%, while Nifty Auto declined 0.65%, Nifty FMCG fell 0.54%, Nifty Media slipped 0.15%, and Nifty Metal was down 0.66%. In the US markets, the Dow Jones closed nearly flat at 49,499.20, while the S&P 500 declined 0.54% to close at 6,908 and the Nasdaq dropped over 1.2% to end at 22,872.35. US markets were weak despite strong results and guidance from Nvidia, as technology stocks resumed selling. Geopolitical tensions remain elevated even as US-Iran dialogue continued in Geneva, contributing to the global market weakness. On Monday, US stock futures are trading higher with Dow futures up 54 points and S&P 500 futures gaining 0.45%, following a strong week on Wall Street that drove the Dow Jones to record highs.
Across Asia, most major markets opened Monday's trade on a mixed note as investors rethink artificial intelligence-driven plays. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 was flat at the open, while the Topix added 0.2%. South Korea's Kospi added 1.87%, while the small-cap Kosdaq declined 1%. Futures for Hong Kong's Hang Seng index last traded at 23,253, lower than its previous close of 23,350.03. Asia-Pacific markets opened Monday's trade on a mixed note as investors are once again considering chip-making stocks, with focus also on the minutes from the Federal Reserve's June meeting, set to be released later this week. Crude oil prices were trading near the $70 a barrel mark, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures trading 0.47% lower at $68.37 per barrel and Brent crude futures with August delivery at $71.70, below the psychologically important level of $75.
Foreign institutional investors (FII) demonstrated strong buying interest, purchasing shares worth ₹1,355.33 crore on Friday while domestic institutional investors sold stocks worth ₹1,953.89 crore, as per NSE data reported by The Economic Times. FIIs have so far this year sold shares worth ₹2,73,564 crore, data from National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) showed. The contrasting flows highlight the continued foreign investor confidence despite domestic institutional selling pressure. Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have been net buyers in February, which is positive, according to ANI reports. On Monday, FIIs were net buyers of shares worth ₹1,355.33 crore, continuing their positive momentum from Friday's session.
In commodities, gold prices were nearly flat at ₹1,60,068 per 10 grams for 24 karat at the time of filing, while silver surged to ₹2,66,337 per kilogram. According to an exchange filing, HDFC Bank reported strong business growth with gross advances increasing 15.4% to ₹30.61 lakh crore as of June 2026, compared to ₹26.53 lakh crore last year. The bank's period-end deposits were around ₹31.7 lakh crore, a growth of 14.7% over ₹27.64 lakh crore, while period-end current account savings account (CASA) deposits rose 9.4% to ₹10.25 lakh crore. Several companies announced significant developments including Oberoi Realty recording gross bookings of approximately ₹8,109 crore at 'Three Sixty North', its first luxury residential development in the NCR. On Monday, silver prices traded 3.17% higher at $63 per troy ounce on COMEX, with silver advancing 1.87% to ₹2.37 lakh per kilogram in India. The rupee depreciated 0.19% to close at 95.22 to the dollar on July 06, while the US Dollar Index (DXY) was trading 0.01% higher at 100.87.
