Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) reported subdued performance for Q2 FY27, with consolidated net profit declining 6.9% year-on-year to ₹353 crore compared to ₹379 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. According to CNBC TV18 and ET Now, revenue from operations rose marginally by 1% to ₹2,379 crore from ₹2,355 crore a year ago. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) declined 4.5% to ₹550 crore, compared with ₹576 crore in the year-ago period, with EBITDA margin contracting to 23.1% from 24.5% a year earlier. The company's total volumes handled in Q2 FY27 increased just 0.53% year-on-year to 14.48 lakh twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with EXIM volumes declining 0.1% while domestic volumes grew 2.43%.
The quarterly performance revealed significant operational challenges across different business segments. The core EXIM (Export-Import) business remained relatively steady, posting a marginal 0.91% revenue increase to ₹1,591.78 crore and a 1.94% uptick in segment profit to ₹432.12 crore. In contrast, the domestic segment faced severe margin compression with revenue growing slightly by 0.97% to ₹781.43 crore, but segment profit plummeted by over 77% to ₹14.57 crore from ₹64.42 crore year-on-year, significantly dragging down overall earnings performance. This uneven operational dynamics highlight the company's challenges in maintaining profitability across different business verticals.
Despite the challenging quarter, CONCOR's board declared a second interim dividend of ₹1.90 per equity share, translating to ₹144.71 crore total payout. According to ET Now, the company has fixed November 11, 2026, as the record date for determining eligible shareholders, with the dividend to be paid or dispatched on or after November 20, within 30 days of its declaration. Shares of CONCOR closed at ₹418.95 on the BSE on Tuesday, up 1.07% or ₹4.45, ahead of the earnings announcement. The company maintains its position as a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, operating 68 terminals including logistics parks, more than 15 logistics parks and 422 wagons.
India's container market remains positioned for significant expansion, with projections showing growth from ₹361.6 million in FY25 to ₹881.5 million by FY34. According to reports from The Financial Express, this represents a CAGR of 10.4% over the forecast period. The growth trajectory is supported by major infrastructure developments, with major ports handling 915.17 million tons of cargo in FY26 and global container-port throughput exceeding an estimated 1 billion twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025. Indian Railways also transported 1,670 million tons of freight during the same period, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for container logistics.
CONCOR shares were trading at ₹418.95 on November 2, 2026, up ₹4.45 (1.07%), with the stock opening at ₹416.55 and touching an intraday high of ₹423.65. As per ET Now, the total traded quantity (TTQ) stood at 0.43 lakh shares with a turnover of ₹1.80 crore, while the two-week average traded quantity was 0.57 lakh shares. The company's full market capitalisation stood at ₹31,907.98 crore, with free-float market capitalisation at ₹14,421.77 crore. Despite strong growth projections, both companies face operational challenges and market dynamics, with key challenges including first-mile and last-mile connectivity issues and potential capacity outpacing cargo demand.
