According to reports from The Economic Times, Elitecon International hit the 5% upper circuit in Wednesday's trading session, opening at ₹39.11 compared to the previous close of ₹38.57 and touching an intraday high of ₹40.49. The small-cap stock witnessed significant trading activity with around 9.86 lakh shares changing hands on Wednesday, as reported by BSE data. The rally appeared to be largely sentiment-driven with no fundamental triggers behind the surge, according to market observers.
The positive momentum in Elitecon International coincided with broader market strength, as reported by The Economic Times. The Sensex surged 1,133.53 points, or 1.48%, to start at 77,981.10, while the Nifty 50 opened 321.15 points, or 1.35% higher at 24,163.80 amid hopes of a second round of US-Iran truce talks. This positive sentiment across Dalal Street contributed to the small-cap stock's strong performance despite the absence of specific company-related developments.
According to an exchange filing on April 10, Elitecon International received a show cause notice from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) Lucknow Zonal Unit regarding compliance under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. As reported by The Economic Times, the notice proposes tax demands equivalent to ₹221.89 crore, interest and penalty equivalent to ₹129.18 crore, and recovery equivalent to ₹91.22 crore of refund under applicable GST laws. The company has been called upon to explain why such proposed demands should not be confirmed, with the matter currently at a preliminary stage. The filing noted that no final liability has been determined and the financial impact remains contingent upon the outcome of adjudication proceedings.
According to The Economic Times, on April 4, Elitecon International informed exchanges that Sachin Ashokrao Sabale, Chief Executive Officer, Susanta Kumar Panda and Anjali Bamboria have resigned from their posts. Additionally, markets regulator Sebi had issued an interim order against the company on March 31, barring key promoters from participating in the market citing prima facie evidence of misleading disclosures, governance shortcomings, and suspicious trading. The order identifies several individuals including Vipin Sharma and Pawan Kumar Ray, among others, along with the company itself. Sebi's probe highlighted an abnormal surge in the stock's price and trading volumes, raising suspicions of possible market manipulation, with the regulator reviewing trading trends suggesting the price movement did not reflect the company's underlying fundamentals.
Despite recent challenges, Elitecon International has delivered exceptional long-term returns, as reported by The Economic Times. The stock has multiplied investors' wealth by delivering 3,700% returns in the last five years, though it has faced pressure in recent months with a 13% decline in two weeks and over 23% drop in a month. The stock has descended nearly 51% in three months and 61% in year-to-date basis, reflecting the volatility typical of small-cap stocks amid regulatory scrutiny and governance concerns. The company is currently in the process of examining the GST notice and will take appropriate legal measures to respond and defend its position.
