According to reports from CNBC TV18, 11 of 18 analysts covering Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) after its June quarter results have a 'buy' rating, while 7 others maintain 'hold' recommendations. The consensus estimates of price targets imply an upside potential of 15% from current levels. East India Securities has the highest price target at ₹5,250, followed by Prabhudas Lilladher's ₹4,850, making it the only target exceeding ₹5,000 for Asia's oldest exchange. JPMorgan maintains a 'neutral' rating with a price target of ₹4,090, while Jefferies and UBS both have 'hold' ratings at ₹3,520 and ₹4,500 respectively. However, recent updates show JPMorgan cutting its target to ₹4,090 from ₹4,330 earlier, while Jefferies increased its target to ₹3,520 from ₹3,440, and UBS maintained its ₹4,500 target. Prabhudas Lilladher has now joined the bullish camp with a 'buy' rating and target price of ₹4,850, citing strong operational performance and growth prospects.
According to Jefferies analysis reported by CNBC TV18, the exchange is trading at 48 times its financial year 2027 estimated Earnings Per Share, which the brokerage notes ignores single product reliance concerns. Recent trends reflect a declining volume trajectory across cash and derivatives, with geopolitical conditions easing out as well as possible impact of RBI tightening on proprietary book lending, as noted by MOFSL. MOFSL has cut earnings estimates by 9%/8% for FY27E/FY28E, factoring in higher operating expense trajectory and extrapolating weak volume trends. However, Nuvama highlighted that BSE's market share surged 519 basis points MoM to 37.6% with five expiries in July compared with four for NSE, supported by improving institutional participation and derivative traction owing to market volatility. Prabhudas Lilladher notes that lower contribution to core SGF (~2% of FY27E transaction income) offsets the impact of regulatory changes, improving PAT growth of 28% YoY in FY27E. ICICI Securities notes that premium ADTV down 14.4%/3.1% from Q1FY27/Jun'26, leading to estimates of gradual systemic volume growth.
As reported by CNBC TV18, new product initiatives remain a key focus area for BSE, including the recently launched focused IT derivatives, additional index-based derivatives, corporate bond initiatives, enhanced data products and the STAR NPS platform. Nuvama noted that BSE continued to report new peaks in revenue and profitability, supported by improving institutional participation, derivative traction owing to market volatility, and structural expansion in STAR MF and index businesses. UBS noted that while management acknowledged industry-wide headwinds from higher STT and RBI's lower proprietary leverage regulations, the direct impact on BSE's options volumes has been relatively limited and remains difficult to isolate at this stage. Prabhudas Lilladher maintains that BSE's strategic initiatives in new product launches and market expansion continue to drive growth, with the exchange well-positioned to capitalize on evolving market dynamics. ICICI Securities emphasizes that BSE enjoys strong prospects of volume growth across segments (options, cash, and the MF platform) led by derivatives, which has been their key investment thesis for the stock.
