Zcash (ZEC) has experienced a 13% decline over the past 24 hours, testing the critical $1,036-$1,162 demand zone according to latest market data. This represents a significant reversal from the cryptocurrency's earlier recovery that saw it climb 8.34% to approximately $1,325 on October 12, with trading volume rising 175.80% from the previous day. The current decline brings Zcash back to levels where it faces crucial technical support, with the token's market capitalization now near $22.51 billion and roughly 17 million ZEC circulating in the market.
Recent market data reveals concerning bearish signals across multiple metrics that suggest continued selling pressure. The network has recorded two consecutive days of negative inflows, indicating weaker demand relative to selling pressure, as reported by AMBCrypto. Additionally, ZEC's Funding Rate has flattened at 1.42%, just above its predicted average funding rate of 0.29%, which suggests bearish positioning is gaining traction in derivatives markets. Most significantly, long liquidations have crossed the $13 million mark, while short liquidations remain minimal at just $1.3 million, indicating that leveraged bullish positions are being forced out as prices fall. This imbalance in liquidations signals that buyers have yet to regain control of the short-term trend.
Despite the recent decline, analyst Austin Barack continues to identify the $1,330 area as a key trendline level following Zcash's recovery from earlier lows. The cryptocurrency remains above all four major moving averages - the 20-day at $1,321.64, 50-day at $1,194.97, 100-day at $981.82, and 200-day at $755.99. However, the current technical outlook suggests a wait-and-see approach as the market tests the critical demand zone. According to AMBCrypto analysis, the $1,036 level represents a crucial support area, with a sustained rebound from this zone potentially helping stabilize prices and opening the door to recovery. Conversely, a drop below $1,036 would invalidate the bullish formation and cause ZEC to experience further downward pressure.
Despite current market challenges, Zcash infrastructure developer Zakura continues to outline plans for post-quantum signature instructions in January 2027, according to engineering update by developer Roman Akhtariev. The proposed technology would allow transparent Zcash transactions to use hash-based signatures as an alternative security mechanism. Separately, the Zcash Foundation's Zebra release documentation identifies November 5 as a tentative mainnet target for NU7 network upgrade, with the project's official protocol repository recording a testnet activation height of 4,465,026. The upgrade aims to reduce the target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The current decline follows Zcash's earlier aggressive rally that pushed the token to a September high near $1,700 after breaking free from a pennant consolidation, bringing the token's total gains since its late-August breakout to approximately 100% before the recent correction.
