According to CryptoQuant, XRP whales executed a significant strategic withdrawal on May 22, removing 122 million tokens worth approximately $170.8 million from Binance within 24 hours. This represents the largest single-day outflow exceeding 100 million tokens since early February, when 278 million XRP left the exchange. The timing of this withdrawal is particularly significant as it occurred near the $1.35-$1.40 price corridor, which market participants are closely monitoring as a potential accumulation area. CryptoQuant analyst Amr Taha noted that the February withdrawal surge coincided with XRP trading around $1.43, while the recent activity occurred closer to $1.35, suggesting institutional players view this range as an attractive entry opportunity.
According to reports from Santiment, XRP's crowd sentiment has fallen into the 'FUD zone' for the first time in three weeks, with the ratio of positive to negative commentary dropping to just 1.1 bullish comments for every bearish comment on May 25. The altcoin market remains under pressure, as XRP currently trades beneath $1.3580 and remains under its 100-hourly simple moving average. On a quarterly basis, the XRP/BTC ratio is already down 10.7% so far in Q2, following two consecutive bearish quarters in which the ratio declined by more than 20% combined. XRP has been trading lower over the past month, with the price briefly jumping above $1.50 a few times but those rallies faded quickly as selling pressure returned, resulting in a nearly 6% decline during this period. The current sentiment reading represents the first significant return to fear territory since March, when XRP finally recovered from a protracted sell-off period.
As reported by Santiment, extreme fear typically means weaker hands have already exited the market, creating conditions for potential recovery. The analytics firm noted that historically, XRP has reacted strongly after social sentiment collapses, with previous fear cycles often preceding rebounds ranging between 20% and 50% over following weeks. This pattern reflects classic contrarian trading psychology, where institutional buyers and experienced investors often begin accumulating discounted positions quietly when retail traders panic. The current setup resembles earlier recovery phases rather than the start of a major collapse, though analysts caution that sentiment alone cannot guarantee a reversal. Data suggests that extreme XRP hype often appeared near local tops, while deep fear historically created rebound opportunities afterward, with similar periods of fear and skepticism acting as contrarian signals for XRP's price. Since March, when XRP finally recovered from a protracted sell-off period, this reading represents the first significant return to that fear zone.
Despite the weak technicals and rising market FUD, institutional conviction in XRP remains intact. As reported by CryptoPotato, US-based spot XRP ETFs have maintained uninterrupted positive inflows across 16 consecutive trading sessions, accumulating $116.75 million throughout this stretch. This compares favorably to Bitcoin funds recording $1 billion in outflows and Ethereum funds losing nearly $300 million during the same timeframe. This persistent institutional demand from American investors represents an additional supportive factor for the digital asset. The combination of tokens leaving exchanges and steady ETF capital inflows suggests decreasing available supply on the selling side, with the net exchange position change dropping to -$30 million on the same date—the most negative figure recorded since April 9, when the token traded near $1.28. This preceded a 17% rally to $1.51 by April 17, demonstrating how similar conditions have historically created buying opportunities. Standard Chartered projects XRP could reach $8 if the CLARITY Act passes, which would unlock structural institutional demand.
From a technical perspective, XRP's Bollinger Bands have narrowed to their tightest configuration since mid-2024, with historical instances of similar compression preceding price movements ranging from 58% to 82%. This suggests potential upside toward $2.33 if current patterns repeat. Immediate resistance appears at $1.360, followed by additional barriers at $1.3720 and $1.380, while support levels are established at $1.330, $1.3280, and $1.30. Technical analyst ChartNerd identified $1.30 as the current guardrail, cautioning that a decisive break below this threshold could precipitate a decline into the lower $1 territory. According to Santiment, on-chain activity continues improving even as market sentiment weakens, with XRP wallet growth accelerating sharply in May and the network reporting thousands of new wallets within 24 hours. This divergence between weak sentiment and growing network activity has caught traders' attention, as it suggests underlying demand may be stronger than current price action indicates. Ripple's On-Demand Liquidity network and record tokenization activity on the XRP Ledger support its utility in enterprise finance, though its price remains sensitive to policy headlines.
Analyst Crypto Patel drew parallels between the current consolidation pattern and the calm period preceding XRP's late-2024 breakout, establishing a long-term price objective of $10. However, the market structure remains unstable as XRP is still hovering just above significant horizontal support in the $1.30 area after repeatedly failing to break through declining resistance around the 50-day moving average. Several bullish catalysts remain active, including progress around the CLARITY Act in Washington, ongoing Ripple ecosystem expansion, and anticipation surrounding the CME XRP futures launch on May 29. The upcoming 'Glamsterdam' upgrade in early 2026 aims to increase transaction capacity to 10,000 per second, potentially driving prices toward $3,000. However, broader macro conditions and Bitcoin's direction continue to heavily influence XRP price trends. The combination of reduced sell-side liquidity through whale withdrawals, steady ETF inflows, and improving network activity creates favorable conditions for potential price appreciation, though a decisive breakdown below support may open the path toward $1.20.
