XRPL Commons has announced early access to the XRP Ledger's proposed native lending tools at its October 24-25 New York hackathon, with more than 400 builders registered for the 36-hour event. According to XRPL Commons, the organization named Ripple, the XRPL Foundation, Mastercard, Amazon Web Services, Ledger and QuickNode as partners backing the event. The hackathon will offer four development tracks with more than $40,000 in prizes and access to incubation opportunities for winning teams.
Under the proposed framework, XLS-65 would introduce Single Asset Vaults, allowing several depositors to pool one asset such as XRP or Ripple's dollar stablecoin RLUSD. As described by XRPL Commons, the design gives each depositor shares representing their portion of the pool. XLS-66 would use those pooled assets to fund fixed-term loans, with borrowers and designated loan managers agreeing on interest, repayment schedules, and terms while the ledger records and manages credit arrangements. The proposed system relies on credit assessments outside the blockchain and includes a first-loss capital buffer to absorb initial portions of losses when borrowers default.
According to XRPL documentation, lending proposals must maintain support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks before activation. As reported by crypto.news, Ripple's validator backed both lending amendments, but no fixed launch date has been set for the lending proposals. The hackathon announcement sets no activation date, leaving participating teams to develop against test versions while validators make their decisions through the voting process mechanism for introducing core protocol changes.
The hackathon will offer four tracks including Lending & Borrowing, Protocol Innovation, Agentic Finance, and an open category called Why Not. According to XRPL Commons, the Protocol Innovation track seeks C++ and systems engineers to work on amendments, client software, and developer tools, with a three-day Core Dev Bootcamp running October 20-22. The Agentic Finance track will cover infrastructure allowing AI agents to make payments and manage funds on the XRP Ledger, using existing ledger functions including escrow and Credentials. The organizer has opened participation to developers new to XRPL as well as established teams.
Beyond the prize competition, top teams will receive fast-track access to grants and incubation through XRPL Commons. According to the organization, it has incubated more than 70 projects and works with over 5,000 active builders. Commercial developments have announced preparations alongside the work, with Clearpool outlining its planned XRPL credit expansion proposing lending products built around native vault and lending standards. Ripple has committed capital toward products offering yield opportunities using XRP and RLUSD, with an associated arrangement providing RLUSD-denominated working-capital loans to fintech and payment companies.
