TONcoin (TON) has emerged as one of the strongest performers in the latest market rebound, gaining nearly 19% in the past 24 hours as investor sentiment improved alongside a series of network upgrades aimed at boosting blockchain efficiency. According to AMBCrypto, this latest rally has coincided with rising on-chain activity, stronger liquidity flows, and renewed user participation across the TON ecosystem. The explosive move made TON one of the best-performing large-cap cryptocurrencies over the past 24 hours, with 24-hour trading volume hitting $1.77 billion and the asset climbing from roughly $1.37 to $2.73. The rally was originally triggered by Telegram founder Pavel Durov's announcement on May 4 that Telegram would replace the TON Foundation as the main force driving network development and adoption.
TON's latest momentum follows improvements to the network's core infrastructure, particularly transaction finality. According to data shared by Pavel Durov, the blockchain now ranks among the fastest Layer-1 networks in transaction finality, processing transactions in roughly 0.6 seconds. Earlier upgrades also reduced transaction fees by nearly six times to around 0.00039 TON, or roughly $0.0005, while the network continues working toward gas-free transactions. The development forms part of the ecosystem's broader 'Make TON Great Again (MTONGA)' initiative, which focuses on improving network performance and user accessibility. These improvements have made TON more competitive for high-frequency transactions and consumer-facing applications, with features such as seamless mini-apps, instant payments, and broader Web3 experiences within Telegram stand to benefit directly from TON's upgraded infrastructure.
Market activity across the TON ecosystem has accelerated significantly since the upgrades went live. As reported by AMBCrypto, TON's Total Value Locked (TVL) has climbed by roughly $32 million to approximately $91 million since May 4, reflecting growing confidence among users and liquidity providers. Trading activity across decentralized exchanges has also surged, with DEX volume climbing to nearly $42 million, representing levels not recorded since late 2024. The increase in liquidity and trading volume suggests the market has responded positively to the network's recent improvements. However, TON's rally could face pressure from a major supply event scheduled later this month.
Despite the improving fundamentals, TON's upcoming token unlock continues to represent one of the largest risks to its current momentum. According to AMBCrypto, TON is expected to unlock approximately $103 million worth of tokens on May 24, which could place downward pressure on price if buying demand fails to keep pace with the additional circulation. The risk becomes more significant considering that TON's inflows and outflows had only recently ranged between $7 million and $15 million before the latest rally pushed activity higher. Recent trading sessions recorded inflows between roughly $143 million and $200 million, and the market must maintain that level of demand to absorb the new supply without weakening bullish momentum.
Analysts are divided on TON's near-term prospects, with bull case scenarios targeting $3.2 to $4.2 if momentum continues, while bear case scenarios suggest a pullback to $2.3–$2.5 if sentiment turns. However, Telegram's deeper integration could push TON into the $5–$7 range, with some analysts pointing to a strong payments use case and developer growth potentially pushing it past $10. The key catalyst remains Telegram's next moves, as the messaging app's 900+ million user base represents massive potential for crypto adoption. However, whether TONcoin reaches $5 in 2026 remains realistic but not guaranteed, with Bitcoin's broader market direction and Telegram's execution of its roadmap being critical factors. The upcoming token unlock on May 24 will be a crucial test of whether the current rally can sustain its momentum.
