World's largest stablecoin issuer Tether reported a $1.5 billion net profit in Q2 2026, representing a 44% increase from the Q1 2026 profit of $1.04 billion. According to reports from AMBCrypto, this substantial growth was primarily driven by U.S Treasury bonds and repurchase agreements (repos). The company also maintained a $4.1 billion reserve buffer to handle any unforeseen USDT redemption emergencies, demonstrating strong financial resilience amid volatile market conditions.
The stablecoin issuer's user base continued its remarkable growth trajectory, reaching a new all-time-high of 650 million users during Q2. As reported by AMBCrypto, CEO Paolo Ardoino highlighted that the widest surge across all emerging markets was fueled by continued geopolitical uncertainty. The company's focus on delivering financial inclusion in developing regions has been particularly successful, with Ardoino noting that Tether continues to deliver financial inclusion like no other company in human history.
According to AMBCrypto reports, Tether has significantly expanded its presence in Latin America and Africa during the ongoing West Asia crisis. In Venezuela, USDT trading on Binance reached $1.4 billion, rivaling the country's oil exports and central bank foreign exchange reserves. Similarly, growing demand for US dollars in Bolivia has made USDT a de facto alternative, with the government considering making it legal tender as banks and businesses actively use it. Across Africa, USDT has been primarily used for global remittances and currency hedging, but Tether is deepening integration through tokenization, with plans to study tokenization of local stocks in Kenya.
Despite strong financial results, Tether's market performance faced headwinds during Q2. As reported by AMBCrypto, the USDT market cap dropped by nearly $7 billion from May's peak of $190 billion to $183.5 billion. The overall stablecoin market also declined from $322 billion to $307.6 billion, representing a 5% drop amid an extended crypto winter. Tether's US-focused stablecoin, USAT, has seen slow growth with a market cap of $185 million.
