SBI Holdings announced on July 28 that SBI Security Solutions had changed its name to SBI Digital Practice Co. Ltd., effective June 22. According to reports from SBI, the wholly owned subsidiary will now operate as SBI's dedicated on-chain finance business specializing in the Canton Network. The restructuring adds Canton to SBI's existing work across XRP Ledger, Solana, stablecoins, and tokenized securities. This strategic expansion aligns with SBI's broader multichain approach to blockchain infrastructure development.
SBI's expansion includes a significant partnership with ONDO Finance, which has launched ONDO Network as its primary infrastructure for real-world asset operations. As reported by ONDO Finance, the platform pivoted from developing ONDO Chain as an independent layer-1 blockchain to an execution-focused architecture using Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). ONDO Network executes transactions within these hardware-based secure compartments, maintaining complete confidentiality around order details, position sizes, and participant identities. The network architecture incorporates distributed key management where cryptographic signing authority is divided across multiple operators, preventing any single entity from unilaterally controlling user funds.
As reported by SBI, Canton connects more than 600 institutions and supports over $6 trillion in assets. The network includes major financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Franklin Templeton, Broadridge, and Euroclear. SBI has participated in Canton as a Super Validator, a network role involved in transaction approval and management. The subsidiary is based in Roppongi, Tokyo, and is led by representative director Ryo Shimotsu, with SBI retaining full ownership. This infrastructure provides SBI with direct access to institutional-grade blockchain capabilities for real-world asset operations.
According to SBI's announcement, Canton's link to tokenized U.S. Treasuries provides the Japanese expansion with a direct U.S. market connection. The U.S. connection comes through the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC). DTCC and Digital Asset announced plans in December 2025 to tokenize a subset of U.S. Treasury securities held at the Depository Trust Company on Canton. A July transaction conducted through Tradeweb later paired an on-chain U.S. Treasury with USDCx and settled the assets through Canton. This connection enables SBI to serve Japanese institutional clients with U.S. market exposure through secure, on-chain infrastructure.
The partnership with ONDO Finance represents SBI's commitment to building comprehensive blockchain infrastructure for institutional clients. ONDO Network's roadmap includes support for Oasis Pro Markets, tokenized equity instruments, DTCC Tokenization Service connectivity, and collaboration with Japan's SBI Group. SBI's subsidiary will plan, develop, and operate financial infrastructure and applications for institutions using Canton, covering implementation support, regulatory compliance, and transaction systems spanning different countries and currencies. According to SBI's announcement, the company expects more financial products and transactions to move onto blockchain networks, with the new unit helping banks and other financial institutions adopt the technology while meeting rules in their respective markets.
