Cryptocurrency exchange Robinhood has officially launched Robinhood Chain mainnet on July 1, 2026, a public Ethereum Layer 2 network built on Arbitrum technology. The mainnet introduction enables tokenized stocks, DeFi primitives, perpetual futures with up to 10x leverage, and integrations with major blockchain infrastructure providers including Chainlink, Alchemy, BitGo, Uniswap, and Pleiades. According to the company's announcement, Robinhood Chain is accessible via the Robinhood Wallet app in more than 120 countries, marking a significant expansion of the platform's global reach. The network provides blockchain solutions for decentralized applications and real-world assets, with the company emphasizing that Robinhood Chain is fast, secure, AI-native, and purpose-built for real-world assets from day one.
Cryptocurrency exchange Robinhood has officially confirmed that eligible US-based customers will soon be able to connect third-party AI agents to trade crypto on the platform, marking the next phase of the company's Agentic Trading product. The announcement, made on July 10, expands the feature beyond equities and options trading, which launched in beta on May 27. According to the latest confirmation, AI agents will operate in dedicated, isolated accounts that are completely walled off from a user's primary portfolio. Users must fund these accounts separately and receive real-time profit and loss tracking to monitor their digital co-pilot's performance. The technical backbone supporting this integration is Robinhood's Model Context Protocol (MCP), a secure handshake layer that allows third-party AI agents to plug into Robinhood's infrastructure without accessing the rest of a user's holdings. Alongside the AI trading launch, Robinhood has introduced the Agentic Credit Card, allowing customers to connect their AI agent to a virtual Robinhood Gold Card with spending caps set by the user. The card enables AI agents to scan prices, monitor availability, and make purchases automatically based on predefined instructions.
Robinhood has significantly expanded its international presence through strategic acquisitions and regulatory approvals. The company disclosed plans to introduce cryptocurrency trading capabilities in the UK and expanded into Canada after purchasing WonderFi. Additionally, Robinhood secured a capital markets service license from Singapore, which will facilitate launching future brokerage capabilities in the region. The company has also introduced Robinhood Earn to some customers in the US that allows trading of USDG stablecoins on a self-custodial wallet via the Morpho protocol technology. Some other users in specific jurisdictions have been allowed to trade perpetual futures on Lighter from the Robinhood Wallet app, with the firm taking perpetual futures across Europe not only in cryptocurrency but also in commodities, ETFs, and foreign exchange products with up to ten times leverage. The company's median customer is 36 years old, educated, and tech-forward, with half being first-generation investors - a very different demographic from traditional brokerage customers.
The developments at Robinhood follow similar moves by major competitors in the cryptocurrency trading space. Robinhood has introduced plans to let eligible U.S. customers authorize AI agents to execute cryptocurrency trades on their behalf, extending automated investing beyond stocks and options. During Robinhood's beta launch of AI-powered agentic accounts for equities and options traders in late May, more than 70,000 agentic accounts were created, indicating early demand for automated investing tools. Coinbase is reportedly developing similar AI agent features, meaning the two largest US retail crypto platforms are now in an arms race over who can best integrate artificial intelligence into trading workflows. The push for autonomous crypto trading adds to Robinhood's broader crypto strategy, which has primarily focused on real-world asset tokenization and the company's Ethereum layer 2 Robinhood Chain, which launched earlier this month.
The success of Robinhood's AI initiatives stems from the company's engineering-first approach and heavy AI infrastructure investment. At a recent Bernstein conference, CFO Shiv Verma revealed that about 75% of customer service tickets are now resolved by AI, while the company reported over nine figures in software development savings from AI tools with code commit velocity up 50% since the start of 2025. This internal discipline enabled the development of safe and reliable agentic trading products. Robinhood has been quietly positioning itself as a financial super app, now offering stocks, options, crypto, event contracts, futures, retirement accounts, banking, credit cards, and wealth management referral networks. The company's product velocity advantage over legacy brokers, combined with its ability to quickly ship new features, gives it a competitive edge against competitors who copy its innovations. The comprehensive strategy incorporates blockchain infrastructure, tokenization, decentralized finance, and artificial intelligence into one unified framework.
The development comes at a time when the cryptocurrency industry is increasingly embracing artificial intelligence for trading, risk management, and compliance, though regulatory scrutiny around automated trading systems remains high. Particular concerns include market manipulation, transparency, and consumer protection. Robinhood noted that its UK customers would be next in line to access the AI agent offering, indicating the company's global expansion plans for autonomous trading features. For cryptocurrency traders, AI-powered agentic trading could reduce the time and expertise required to actively manage portfolios, making sophisticated trading strategies more accessible to less experienced users while introducing risks related to over-reliance on automated systems and potential technical failures. Despite integrations advancing AI agent-driven stablecoin spending, data shows that AI-agent transaction activity on the blockchain remains relatively small, with Artemis data showing only $2 million in transaction volume facilitated through AI agent-supported protocols in June. The company's continuous global presence growth and new product development in regulated environments will be closely monitored by industry participants.
