OKX has launched OKX Money, a standalone consumer application that enables eligible users to convert more than 50 local currencies into dollar-backed stablecoins, including USDG, USDC, or USDT. According to reports from OKX, the app allows users to transfer stablecoins, switch among supported tokens without conversion fees, and utilize virtual and physical Mastercard cards for purchases in other currencies. The platform charges no foreign-exchange fee or markup on international transactions, as reported by the company. The app went live on October 6, 2026 at OKX's OKX Now Product event in Singapore, with a phased rollout targeting emerging markets including Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. As Fortune reports, Haider Rafique, OKX's global managing partner, emphasizes that "the key gap for people and institutions is settlement," specifically citing challenges where small businesses wait days for bank settlements and travelers face frozen credit limits from pending deposits. "I grew up in Pakistan," he says. "I still have all the receipts of my mom and dad sending me money through Western Union," along with the memory of the fees paid from their "hard-earned savings."
Qualifying customers can earn up to 10% annual percentage yield (APY) on eligible USDG holdings without lockup or staking requirements, as reported by OKX. The app also offers up to 10% cashback on eligible purchases made using the Mastercard cards. However, the 'up to' yield depends on conditions tied to deposits and spending, so not every dollar parked in the app will land at the top tier. The rate structure is designed to encourage users to maintain active balances and spending patterns. Product availability, rates, and eligibility vary by location, with approximately 70% of the target audience having never used a crypto app before. OKX Money allows customers to hold three dollar-backed stablecoins: Paxos's USDG, Circle's USDC, and Tether's USDT.
While other platforms offer similar services, OKX Money aims to target non-crypto users with a separate app identity that keeps the savings-and-payments pitch apart from the exchange's trading business. According to reports, Binance Pay allows users to hold stablecoins, spend globally, earn passive yield and send cross-border payments with zero gas fees. Coinbase's Coinbase One offers automated yield on USDC of 3.75% to 5% depending on membership and region. Bybit Card and Savings provides automatic conversions from fiat to stablecoins and global spending via a Mastercard-backed card. OKX has prioritized user-friendly design and emphasized regulatory compliance, betting that newcomers care more about a stable balance than blockchain plumbing. As Fortune reports, Rafique notes that "crypto has one moat: We are technologically more advanced than traditional finance, whether it's money or markets."
The launch comes as exchanges and payments companies increasingly try to turn stablecoins into consumer products, with cross-border stablecoin flows reaching $220.3 billion in the year ending June 2026, representing a 77.5% increase according to Chainalysis. Monthly cross-border value climbed from $11 billion in January 2025 to $24 billion in June 2026, with average cross-border stablecoin transfers close to $3,000 consistent with uses such as supplier payments, remittances and moving savings away from volatile local currencies. OKX, ranked third by Coingecko with a 24-hour trading volume of over $2.2 billion, is packaging these services for customers in markets where local currencies can be volatile and access to U.S.-dollar savings, global cards or cross-border payments are limited or costly. The timing aligns with growing demand for stablecoin-based financial services in emerging markets, with Africa and Latin America showing particular expansion in dollar-pegged stablecoin adoption.
The app launch represents the latest in a series of new products by OKX, sparked in part by a March funding round with Intercontinental Exchange. The owner of the New York Stock Exchange invested in OKX in a deal that valued the cryptocurrency exchange at $25 billion. While the total investment was undisclosed, Bloomberg reported the figure to be roughly $20 million. On Sunday, the OKX-ICE joint venture—co-chaired by former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo—filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a separate platform for round-the-clock trading of more than 60 tokenized U.S. stocks. In recent weeks, OKX also introduced OKX Shield, an account-protection program that promises to reimburse up to $100,000 for regular users and up to $500,000 for VIP users in case of third-party takeovers. The product launch furthers OKX's consumer-finance push after securing a Maltese payments-institution license this year to support European stablecoin and card services.
