Bitcoin-focused life insurer Meanwhile has successfully raised $37.5 million in a funding round led by existing investor Bain Capital Crypto, bringing the company's total funding to $180 million. The latest round was announced on October 8, 2025, and included participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital. As reported by Meanwhile, the funding follows a surge in international demand for the company's Bitcoin life insurance policies, particularly in Asia, Europe and the Middle East amid broader macro instability. The company's backers also include Sam Altman, demonstrating strong institutional backing for the cryptocurrency insurance venture.
The Bermuda-based company offers life insurance policies with premiums and death benefits denominated in bitcoin rather than traditional currencies. Meanwhile's BTC Life 1-Pay product, introduced in early 2026, allows customers to pay a single bitcoin premium in exchange for a guaranteed BTC-denominated death benefit. The policy's value grows in Bitcoin, and after the first year, owners can borrow up to 90% of it with no repayment schedule and no margin calls. This approach represents efforts to integrate bitcoin into traditional wealth management products, extending its use beyond investment and trading into inheritance and insurance applications. The growth is evident in Meanwhile's financial results, with net long-term underwriting income already passing last year's total and on track to more than double in 2026. The company also offers BTC 10-Pay for U.S. taxpayers, allowing premiums to be paid over ten years.
Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited holds the first Class IILT license the Bermuda Monetary Authority has granted, received in July 2024 after two years in the regulator's sandbox. The company's balance sheet, reserves and audited financial statements are all denominated in Bitcoin, with all policyholder Bitcoin held with regulated institutional custodians. According to the company's announcement, Meanwhile has expanded its broker network by signing 15 brokers serving high-net-worth clients across markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE, and Switzerland. This international expansion demonstrates the company's growth beyond its initial U.S. market focus, with broker partners including Lioner, an insurance, trust and family office group with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich, and Apeiron Group, a marketplace for high-net-worth life insurance. The insurer is authorized to transact long-term insurance business with sophisticated persons under Bermuda's regulatory framework.
The funding round reflects growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency-focused financial products as wealthy families increasingly seek regulated solutions for Bitcoin wealth transfer. As reported by Meanwhile, brokers approached the company because their clients kept asking for Bitcoin-denominated life insurance products. "Brokers came to us because their clients kept asking," said Zac Townsend, co-founder and CEO of Meanwhile. The company's mission to enable anyone, anywhere to save, protect and build wealth across generations addresses a critical gap in the market. "We're reaching a turning point where more high-net-worth clients are asking not just how to hold Bitcoin and digital assets, but how to plan around them and ultimately transfer that wealth to the next generation," said Justin Man, CEO of Apeiron Group. The funding comes after Meanwhile raised $82 million in October 2025 in a round jointly led by Bain Capital Crypto and Haun Ventures, following a $40 million Series A completed in April 2025.
