Fractal Bitcoin successfully completed its first halving at block 2.1 million, with network nodes and indexing services operating smoothly following the activation. According to Odaily News and Fractal Bitcoin's official announcement, the milestone activated FIP-102, a consensus upgrade that extends FB distribution from the Fractal network to the Bitcoin mainnet, providing a direct pathway for a broader base of Bitcoin users to obtain FB. The upgrade marks the official activation of FIP-102, with network nodes and indexing services operating normally during the first 10 minutes after activation.
Under FIP-102, Fractal's first scheduled halving reduced the block reward from 25 FB to 12.5 FB, with the second halving cutting rewards again to 6.25 FB per block. As reported by Odaily News and Fractal Bitcoin, the remaining 6.25 FB per Fractal block equivalent has been allocated to a Bitcoin mainnet distribution budget, with an additional 6.25 FB issuance budget redirected to the Bitcoin mainnet. Fractal's three existing mining mechanisms - Merged Mining, Permissionless Mining and Index Mining - retain their 1:1:1 distribution ratio, with each eligible Fractal block now carrying a 6.25 FB reward averaged across the block sequence. FIP-102 does not increase the total supply of FB, ensuring the network maintains its original token economics.
The second 6.25 FB allocation will be distributed to users through eligible activity on Bitcoin mainnet, with a 1:1 conversion mechanism planned between FB on Fractal and FB on Bitcoin mainnet. According to Odaily News and Fractal Bitcoin, the specific distribution mechanism on the Bitcoin mainnet will be clarified in the subsequent FIP-103 proposal, with the goal of completing the rollout by Q1 2027. The project plans to introduce Bitcoin-mainnet distribution progressively over roughly three months, with research and implementation work continuing for three to six months. Testing is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The next Fractal block-reward halving is set for block 4.2 million, after which the target allocations for both the Fractal and Bitcoin distribution paths are expected to decline proportionally unless a later Fractal Improvement Proposal changes the mechanism. As reported by Odaily News and Fractal Bitcoin, FIP-103 will provide the remaining technical details, including eligible interactions, distribution mechanisms, rollout requirements and the process for converting FB between Fractal and Bitcoin. FB's total supply will not increase under the new structure, with mining rewards on the Fractal side continuing to be distributed equally at the 1:1:1 ratio.
