Ethereum ETFs have achieved a third straight weekly inflow through July 28, with total inflows reaching $103.9 million and 37,959 ETH added over the week. According to BeInCrypto, BlackRock's ETHA fund alone accounted for 37,424 ETH of this total, reinforcing its position as the primary driver of institutional demand. The sustained inflow streak demonstrates growing institutional appetite for Ethereum beyond short-term positioning, with Grayscale's ETH products adding 5,515 ETH and Fidelity's FETH losing 4,980 ETH during the same period. This extends the previous trend where Ethereum spot ETFs absorbed approximately $96 million over three trading sessions before adding another $9.23 million on July 27, pushing cumulative net inflows to approximately $11.19 billion and total net assets to $10.65 billion. The latest data from Lookonchain using CoinGlass data confirms this as the third consecutive week of net ETH inflows, marking a meaningful reversal from earlier in the year when Ethereum ETF products faced sustained outflows.
Bitcoin ETFs experienced significant outflows during the same period, with total losses of 3,170 BTC over the week worth approximately $200.23 million. The iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the largest spot Bitcoin ETF, lost 3,511 BTC over the week alone, which exceeded the category's entire net decline. Grayscale's Bitcoin funds fell another 10 BTC, while Bitwise's BITB lost 27 BTC. However, Fidelity's FBTC and ARK 21Shares' ARKB provided some offset with additions of 109 BTC and 77 BTC respectively. Despite these outflows, Bitcoin trades near $63,900, up about 4% for the week, though the funds continue recovering from months of heavy outflows that saw $8.2 billion leave the category by mid-July. Bitcoin ETFs still hold $76.22 billion in assets, more than seven times Ethereum's $9.72 billion, but fresh capital increasingly favors Ethereum. The Lookonchain data confirms that Bitcoin ETFs have recovered just 3.3% of the $8.2 billion that left the category through mid-July, suggesting the category has not yet stabilized.
The fund-level breakdown reveals the stark concentration of institutional capital in BlackRock's ETHA fund. According to Lookonchain using CoinGlass data, ETHA accounted for 37,424 of the week's 37,959 ETH inflows, effectively capturing the entire category's net gain flowing through a single fund. Grayscale's ETH products added 5,515 ETH, while Fidelity's FETH posted a 4,980 ETH outflow that nearly canceled Grayscale's contribution. ETHA's dominance reflects its structural position: the fund controls roughly 68% of US spot ETH ETF assets, and its fee structure significantly undercuts legacy Grayscale Ethereum products. Institutional capital routes through the cheapest, most liquid vehicle, and that vehicle is currently ETHA. This concentration pattern demonstrates how institutional capital is increasingly routing through the most efficient, lowest-cost vehicles available in the market.
Ethereum whales are demonstrating strong accumulation patterns as the cryptocurrency trades near $1,913, up roughly 1% for the week. According to Glassnode data, whale address count tracking wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 ETH has climbed toward 4,850 addresses, up from a bottom near 4,750 addresses in early June. The 30-day change has stayed positive through most of July, suggesting sustained accumulation rather than a short-lived spike. This timing separates the current move from October 2025, when whales spiked while ETH traded near record highs, with the current accumulation occurring close to yearly lows. Fresh wallets also bought 50,000 ETH in mid-July as the ETH/BTC ratio jumped 6%, indicating institutional interest despite the modest scale of daily inflows. Bitmine added 9,946 ETH over the same period, lifting its holdings to 5.79 million tokens, close to 4.8% of the circulating supply. Arthur Hayes has also bought 7,213 ETH since July 15, worth about $13.87 million, highlighting broad accumulation across funds, corporate treasuries, and individual whales simultaneously.
Ethereum's institutional appeal is being reinforced by its expanding utility across multiple sectors. Ethereum's DeFi ecosystem holds nearly $41 billion in Total Value Locked, while stablecoin supply remains dominant at approximately $149 billion, which further solidifies the network's role as blockchain's primary financial settlement layer. The foundation supports a $14.7 billion tokenized real-world asset market, reflecting growing institutional adoption of on-chain finance. Unlike Bitcoin, whose investment thesis largely depends on scarcity, Ethereum combines staking, stablecoins, tokenized assets, and DeFi into multiple demand drivers. This broader utility suggests institutions increasingly value Ethereum's expanding financial ecosystem rather than price exposure alone. The ETH/BTC exchange inflow ratio dropped from above 1.5 to roughly 0.8, still short of the 0.4 zone marking earlier floors, while the ETH/BTC MVRV ratio has fallen from 0.95 in August 2025 to about 0.65. The structural argument for Ethereum beyond pure ETF flows is being reinforced by corporate treasury activity, with BitMine's stock jumping 13% this week as investors rewarded its Ethereum treasury strategy, and SharpLink Gaming continuing to add to its ETH holdings amid summer volatility.
