Ethereum has demonstrated strong institutional demand despite sluggish price performance, with Ethereum ETFs recording $70.48 million in net inflows on July 8 while Bitcoin ETFs faced $84.86 million in net outflows on the same day. According to Investing.com analysis, this impressive move extended Ethereum's positive streak to five consecutive trading days, showing stark contrast in institutional sentiment. The strong ETF performance comes as Ethereum price has been up 10% in the last week, though technical indicators remain weak with most investors holding underwater assets. On-chain metrics also show improvement, with Net Unrealized Profit/Loss (NUPL) showing a slight improvement from -0.46 to -0.30 per CryptoQuant data, though this has left most investors with underwater assets.
Ethereum Institutional, a new nonprofit organization, has launched with an ambitious goal to become the Ethereum ecosystem's front door for banks, asset managers and other financial institutions. According to reports from CoinDesk, the organization is led by David Walsh, Matthew Dawson and Marius Smith, whose backgrounds span traditional finance, technology and crypto. Walsh and Dawson previously worked on the Ethereum Foundation's enterprise engagement team, while Smith joined after senior roles at Google and EigenLayer developer Eigen Labs.
The organization positions itself as a neutral guide for enterprises exploring Ethereum, helping institutions understand the ecosystem, connect with developers and infrastructure providers, and navigate the network without promoting any single company or product. As reported by CoinDesk, Dawson explained that the organization has built up around 500 relationships over the course of the year, with consistent feedback that institutions appreciate having a neutral counterpart amid the overwhelming number of teams in the Ethereum ecosystem. The organization seeks to accelerate institutional adoption by providing clarity and support without promoting specific products, positioning itself as a key bridge between Wall Street and Ethereum's broader ecosystem.
Ethereum Institutional's founders chose to operate as an independent nonprofit rather than remaining within the Ethereum Foundation, citing the foundation's principle of subtraction and increasing decentralization. According to CoinDesk, Walsh noted that operating outside the foundation gives the organization greater autonomy and freedom to work as an independent entity, allowing them to be more opinionated and aggressive in supporting teams. The Ethereum Foundation has made clear its intention to focus more narrowly on protocol development while encouraging independent organizations to lead areas such as business development and ecosystem growth.
The institutional momentum is being reinforced by major banking developments, with Charles Schwab actively hiring blockchain engineers, security specialists and crypto product managers as part of its aggressive expansion into digital assets. As reported by multiple sources, the $19 trillion firm managed $13.14 trillion in client assets and served 39.3 million active brokerage accounts as of May 2026, underscoring the significance of its latest crypto push. Schwab has gradually increased its digital assets exposure, with clients now holding nearly 20% of all U.S. spot crypto exchange-traded products and plans to launch spot Bitcoin and Ethereum trading once regulatory conditions improve. The hiring campaign includes roles such as Senior Blockchain Engineer, Senior Security Engineers, Crypto Technical Project Manager, and Crypto Product Manager, indicating Schwab's commitment to building comprehensive technical and compliance infrastructure for its planned crypto trading rollout.
