The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant 3.8% decline over 24 hours, with total market cap falling from approximately ₹2.80 trillion to ₹2.69 trillion, according to latest market data. Nearly $1 billion equivalent of crypto futures positions were liquidated, with about $483 million in BTC and ETH alone. Bitcoin dropped from the low 83k region to roughly ₹82,000, while Ethereum and other majors also fell during the broad selloff. The decline was triggered by US September CPI data coming in hotter than expected at 3.7% year-on-year versus the 3.6% expected, with core CPI at 2.6% versus 2.5% expected, pushing expectations toward a more hawkish Federal Reserve.
The cryptocurrency market faced a significant security crisis as three major exploits occurred within a 24-hour period, according to reports from AMBCrypto. The incidents affected different platforms and protocols, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability challenges in the crypto ecosystem. Pirate Chain (ARRR), a private zero-knowledge cryptocurrency, experienced a supply accounting exploit targeting its Ironwood turnstile component, which tracks token supply movements across network layers. The vulnerability has prompted developers to roll back the blockchain to October 14th as a safety measure.
The Gamdom exploit resulted in approximately $4.3 million in reported losses across multiple blockchain networks, as reported by AMBCrypto. The attack targeted EVM-compatible networks including $2.2 million stolen across Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism, while $965,000 was taken on Solana. Additional losses included $375,000 from TRON and $668,000 in Bitcoin. The transaction trail showed funds being moved through attacker-controlled wallets, swapped between tokens, and routed through services such as THORChain and Hyperliquid.
Despite the broader market selloff, Internet Computer (ICP) dropped 6% as part of the macro-driven crypto decline, though the move was amplified by ICP's high beta to Bitcoin and general risk sentiment. However, on October 14, DFINITY announced that Internet Computer launched a Solana integration, allowing ICP canisters to read from and write to Solana directly, and introduced ckSOL, a 1:1 SOL derivative that can be used natively in ICP DeFi apps like ICPSwap. This structurally positive development extends ICP's "chain fusion" narrative, letting ICP-based DeFi integrate a new major L1 asset (SOL) without a bridge, alongside BTC, ETH and ICP. The integration broadens ICP's potential usage, especially if Solana liquidity continues growing.
The exploits come amid a record 207 crypto hacks in H1 2026, more than double the 85 incidents recorded in H1 2025, as reported by AMBCrypto. Smart contract exploits accounted for 125 incidents, while compromised keys, custody systems, and signing infrastructure drove most stolen-value losses. Total value hacked in 2026 has crossed $1.195 billion according to DeFiLlama data. The security challenges occur amid reports of North Korea-linked hacking group Kimsuky integrating AI tools into its cyber operations.
