Cryptocurrency peer-to-peer marketplace NoOnes has officially shut down after sanctions severely impacted its operations. According to reports from NoOnes, the platform served more than 2.5 million users over its three-year operational period, but sanctions cost it essential partners, leaving only withdrawals as a functioning service. The wind-down process began on August 17, 2026, with the platform officially closing on August 21, 2026. The platform's official announcement came via social media, stating "NoOnes is now closed. Please withdraw your funds NOW. After Aug 23, NoOnes-related funds may be flagged due to sanctions."
The platform's closure stems from EU sanctions adopted in late July 2026, which the team attempted to resolve and remove. As reported by NoOnes, blockchain monitoring providers subsequently classified the platform's wallets and transactions as high risk, making it difficult to process transactions normally. The team stated they "explored every possible option, but continuing NoOnes was no longer sustainable." The Council of the EU adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia in late July, which directly affected NoOnes operations.
The platform has issued urgent instructions for users to withdraw their funds immediately, with a deadline of August 23, 2026. According to NoOnes, the team warned that balances tied to the platform may be flagged after this date due to EU sanctions listing. Withdrawals are now limited to Bitcoin (BTC) network and Tether (USDT) on TRON, as the platform's Swap, Visa card, crypto off-ramps, gift card store, and Lightning payments have been discontinued. The team strongly advised users to withdraw their entire balance immediately and no later than Sunday, August 23, 2026, recommending they move funds to a self-custody wallet they control.
NoOnes joins a significant trend of crypto platform closures in 2026, with more than 120 crypto projects having shut down according to RootData. As reported by Alea Research, which reviewed 110 crypto shutdowns/restructurings in 2026 representing $687.1M in disclosed historical funding, DeFi platforms accounted for 40 closures (36%) of these cases through mid-August, while centralized exchanges represented only 7 closures. Notably, Binance will also stop processing transactions involving several platforms on August 23, 2026, coinciding with the NoOnes deadline. Of the 36 dated events, 17 occurred in July–August alone, with median funding of $5.28M and median age at closure of 4.69 years.
Despite the widespread closures, some platforms are adapting their strategies. According to reports, BitMart announced this week that it is considering a restructuring plan rather than full liquidation, with a roadmap expected by September 9, 2026. This represents a shift from the predominant trend of platform shutdowns to potential restructuring efforts within the cryptocurrency industry. The restructuring announcement came just a day after NoOnes closed, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing crypto platforms in 2026.
