The CoinDesk 20 Index demonstrated positive momentum with a 0.4% increase to 2169.26 points, representing an 8.61 point gain since 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday. According to reports from CoinDesk Indices, the broad-based cryptocurrency index is currently trading higher across multiple platforms in several regions globally. The index showed resilience with 13 of 20 assets trading in positive territory, indicating broad-based strength among major cryptocurrencies.
Bittensor (TAO) emerged as the leading performer with a 1.7% gain, as reported by CoinDesk Indices. Ripple (XRP) followed closely with a 1.6% increase, joining Bittensor as the top performers in the index. These gains contributed significantly to the overall positive performance of the CoinDesk 20 Index, with both cryptocurrencies demonstrating strong momentum during the trading session. Despite the positive daily performance, XRP investors who purchased $1,000 worth of the token at the start of 2026 now face a nearly 20% loss, with their portfolio dropping from $1,268 to about $802 by mid-May.
Despite the overall positive performance, Internet Computer (ICP) declined 5.2%, representing the largest decline among the 20 constituent assets. NEAR also underperformed with a 1.7% decrease, according to CoinDesk Indices data. These declines helped create the divergence between leaders and laggards within the index, highlighting selective strength in certain cryptocurrency segments.
The CoinDesk 20 Index serves as a broad-based benchmark for the cryptocurrency market, tracking the performance of major digital assets across multiple trading platforms and regions. As reported by CoinDesk Indices, the index's positive performance reflects the current market sentiment and demonstrates the resilience of the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem despite individual asset volatility. The 13 out of 20 assets trading higher indicates broad-based strength across the cryptocurrency market during the session. Additionally, CME Group plans to introduce Nasdaq CME Crypto Index futures on June 8, pending regulatory approval, offering institutional investors exposure to seven major cryptocurrencies including XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, and Stellar Lumens through a single cash-settled futures contract.
