The CHFD stablecoin has officially gone live in its Swiss Franc Sandbox environment at the end of June 2026, marking a significant milestone in the experimental testing phase. According to Odaily Planet Daily News, UBS has announced the launch of the Swiss Franc stablecoin Sandbox test together with nine institutions, including PostFinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, Zürcher Kantonalbank, BCV, SIX, TWINT and Swiss Stablecoin AG. The tokenized asset operates with one CHFD designed to equal one Swiss franc during the experimental testing phase, with the project remaining experimental and not representing a decision to issue CHFD commercially or make it available to the public.
The CHFD stablecoin operates inside a controlled sandbox environment with one CHFD designed to equal one Swiss franc during the experimental testing phase. As reported by Odaily Planet Daily News, the tokenized asset has been operational inside the sandbox since late June 2026 with transaction limits applied throughout. The participating institutions will test automated transactions between financial firms and settlement of tokenized assets, with the objective to reduce delays between asset delivery and fund receipt. SIX Digital Exchange has issued more than CHF 2 billion in digital securities through its infrastructure, with some transactions settling using the Swiss National Bank's wholesale central bank digital currency under Project Helvetia.
The testing covers multiple practical scenarios including e-commerce, ticketing and public-sector payments using programmable payment conditions. According to the announcement, institutions will examine whether payment conditions can reduce fraud for online marketplaces, where money releases only after agreed requirements are satisfied. In ticketing applications, the group will test whether programmable rules can support fairer access to events. The public-funds scenario will assess whether conditional payments can make disbursement more efficient, though no Swiss government agency was named as a participant in the testing.
SIX contributes expertise in exchanges, securities settlement, custody and institutional digital assets, potentially connecting the payment side of CHFD with tokenized bonds, funds or other financial instruments. TWINT's involvement brings consumer and merchant payments expertise, with its mobile payment system widely used in Switzerland for person-to-person transfers and retail transactions. The sandbox began with six Swiss banks in April 2026 - UBS, PostFinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, ZKB and BCV - and expanded to nine participants with the addition of SIX and TWINT. CHFD Infrastruktur AG operates the platform used for the trials, a subsidiary of Swiss Stablecoin AG.
The partners expect testing to continue through the end of 2026, with the initiative described as open-ended and not designed to guarantee a commercial launch. According to Odaily Planet Daily News, UBS stated that the test aims to accumulate technical, operational and regulatory experience, with the test focusing on use cases such as automated inter-institutional trading, tokenized settlement of digital assets and programmable payments. A broader launch would require separate decisions after results are assessed, with no retail rollout, bank-account integration or exchange listing announced. The sandbox uses limited participant groups, transaction caps and safeguards to contain financial and operational risks, distinguishing it from public stablecoin circulation.
