Blockchain.com has officially launched perpetual futures trading on its non-custodial DeFi wallet, marking a significant milestone in decentralized finance evolution. According to the latest announcement, the new feature enables users to engage in leveraged trading directly from their wallets, maintaining full self-custody without transferring assets to third-party exchanges. The platform supports over 190 cryptocurrency markets with up to 40x leverage, offering real-time pricing, adjustable leverage, and risk management tools for enhanced trading capabilities. Users can fund their perpetual contracts accounts using their DeFi wallets, enhancing convenience and security while maintaining complete control over their assets. The integration represents a significant milestone in decentralized finance evolution that bridges the functionality gap between centralized exchange tools and self-custody principles.
The perpetual futures product runs through Hyperliquid and offers access to more than 190 crypto markets with leverage of up to 40x. As reported by Blockchain.com, the system employs a multi-signature smart contract framework that validates positions while maintaining user sovereignty over assets. When users open positions, their Bitcoin collateral remains in their non-custodial wallet but becomes temporarily locked in a smart contract that automatically manages liquidation thresholds and position management without requiring third-party control. This multi-signature smart contract architecture represents a significant advancement in decentralized trading infrastructure, potentially setting new standards for security in leveraged cryptocurrency markets. The product includes real-time pricing, flexible leverage, and risk tools designed to work for both newer and more experienced traders, with the interface acting as the interface instead of the execution venue or counterparty.
The integration represents a significant distribution win for Hyperliquid, which has established itself as the dominant venue in onchain perpetual futures. According to DefiLlama data, Hyperliquid generated about $6 billion in perp volume over the past 24 hours and roughly $191 billion over the past 30 days, with open interest at about $7.35 billion and cumulative perp volume above $4.28 trillion. This substantial scale explains why wallets and apps increasingly prefer Hyperliquid embedded rather than rebuilt. The platform is expanding beyond crypto native markets through HIP 3, which lets outside teams launch permissionless perpetuals on its order book, helping bring in products tied to traditional assets. As per MEXC, Hyperliquid has also broadened its offerings to include perpetual contracts tied to commodities like oil and precious metals, as well as financial indexes such as the S&P 500, with some of these non-crypto markets ranking among its most traded by volume. Blockchain.com also plans to expand its offerings to include additional asset classes such as forex, stocks, and commodities, marking a significant step toward multi-asset, non-custodial trading.
The launch represents a broader industry movement as more firms expand perpetual futures beyond their earlier crypto-only focus. According to Blockchain.com, other companies have moved deeper into perpetual futures in recent months, including Kraken's launch of tokenized equity perpetual futures for non-US users in February and Coinbase's introduction of stock-based perpetual futures for users outside the United States in March. Interest in the sector also grew this week after reports indicated that Kalshi is exploring crypto derivatives with plans to offer perpetual futures in the United States. As per MENAFN, Beyond Blockchain, the industry has seen a flurry of activity aimed at widening perpetual futures to traditional assets, with companies expanding 24/7 multi-asset offerings beyond crypto. The launch gives a clearer sense of where wallet competition is heading, as self-custody products have traditionally been judged mostly on storage, swaps and ease of use, while perpetuals bring a different layer into the equation by treating the wallet as a place where users can trade more complex products while keeping control of their keys.
The expansion comes as the regulatory landscape for perpetual futures contracts is evolving favorably. As reported by Blockchain.com, CFTC Chair Michael Selig said last month that the agency expects to allow the contracts in the coming weeks, a change that could open the door for wider access. According to MENAFN, In a recent public comment, Michael Selig, chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), indicated that the agency intends to permit certain crypto derivatives contracts in the coming weeks, signaling potential extra clarity for the sector's mainstream adoption. The decentralized nature of the Hyperliquid integration creates jurisdictional ambiguities that differ significantly from traditional exchange-based futures trading, with regulatory bodies worldwide actively developing frameworks for decentralized financial instruments. This development potentially reduces systemic risk by decreasing the concentration of collateral on centralized exchanges and may accelerate the professionalization of retail cryptocurrency trading. As reported by MEXC, the groundwork is clearly being laid for this trend to attract more traditional investors to DeFi, though the full impact remains to be seen.
