Bitcoin has recorded its largest net exchange outflow in seven months, with approximately 24,073 BTC leaving cryptocurrency exchanges in a single day on October 5th. According to AMBCrypto analysis, this represents the biggest one-day net withdrawal since March 1st, suggesting that a significant amount of Bitcoin is moving away from centralized exchanges and into private wallets or custody solutions. The amount of Bitcoin held on exchanges declined to roughly 6.50% of the total BTC supply, indicating that a relatively smaller portion of the available Bitcoin is immediately accessible for trading. This substantial shift in exchange behavior comes as Bitcoin was trading at $83,654.15 after dropping from around the $85,000 level, showing repeated rejections near $87K that are being offset by higher lows.
Bitcoin's whale behavior shows continued improvement in market dynamics, with Bitcoin's whale position transitioning from an extended period of deposits at exchanges to withdrawals that began around the end of August after nearly three months of overall deposits. The trend has lasted about twice as long as any other period of deposits since 2023, with the 30-day moving average remaining less than zero, indicating that whales have removed more Bitcoin from exchanges than sent to them. This improved whale behavior adds credibility to the current market structure, as the trend of whales adding supply to exchanges has decreased, limiting potential sell-pressure during periods of increased price volatility. The current market structure shows significant improvement in holder profitability compared to previous bear cycles, with Bitcoin trading near $86,200 well above the whale and shark cost bases at $62,100 and $67,500 respectively.
Despite the positive exchange outflow data, broader market conditions present a concerning picture for Bitcoin's near-term prospects. The global cryptocurrency market cap is trading at $2.92 trillion after a 2.7% drop in the past 24 hours, while Bitcoin faces headwinds from elevated Treasury yields with the 10-year above 5.3% and 30-year above 5.6%. This contrasts with the Nasdaq and S&P 500, which remain near record highs, suggesting that BTC is currently more sensitive to high borrowing costs and bond yields than to equity-market strength. The RSI remains well below the neutral level, indicating that bullish momentum is not yet guaranteed despite the improving whale behavior and exchange outflow trends. However, ETFs are performing strongly with $321.48 million in October inflows, providing some institutional support for the cryptocurrency market.
Bitcoin's Net Unrealized Profit and Loss (NUPL) recovery provides additional evidence of improving market health, with NUPL increasing from a low of +0.09 to +0.38, representing an approximately 300% increase in just three months since the most recent downturn. This recovery is similar to one seen in early 2023, but prior to entering into a long-term bull phase. Notably, NUPL has been positive since its trough, whereas it had fallen to -0.31 in the prior bear market. The current level of seller conviction is less than what existed in 2022, though returning profitability can encourage large holders to realize gains if exchange deposits rise again. The overall scenario suggests a tighter liquid supply environment, which would support Bitcoin's price, though the broader market decline and BTC's pullback toward $83.6K indicate caution remains warranted.
Strategy acquired another 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million during September 21–27, bringing total holdings to 847,666 BTC. The company's September 28 filing also disclosed $151.7 million of STRC preferred-share repurchases. Common-stock sales generated $246.2 million in net proceeds, with $142.7 million allocated to Bitcoin and $103.5 million to preferred-share buybacks. Strategy reported holding 5,067,309 ETH staked, approximately 84% of its total holdings, with combined crypto, cash, securities and other investments valued at $17.2 billion. Despite the current market challenges, AMBCrypto's analysis suggests that Bitcoin is up 46% from its July low of $57.8K and could reclaim its $126K ATH by Q1 2027, providing hope for the cryptocurrency's long-term prospects.
