The Royal Government of Bhutan executed a significant $34.5 million Bitcoin transfer to crypto exchange Binance, moving 533 BTC from state-linked wallets. According to onchain data from analytics platform Arkham, the transfers were executed in multiple batches from a wallet tagged as belonging to Druk Holding & Investments, Bhutan's state investment wing. The largest individual transfer involved 227.194 BTC worth approximately $14.7 million, while another moved 48.228 BTC valued at about $3.1 million. Several smaller transactions ranging from fractions of a bitcoin to just over 2 BTC were also routed to the same deposit address. This follows a 90 BTC transfer worth $7 million to a SegWit address in May, as previously reported by AMBCrypto.
The latest movement leaves Bhutan's publicly tagged wallets holding 1,749.96 BTC, valued at $113.7 million, representing a significant decline from the October 2024 peak of approximately 13,000 BTC. As reported by Arkham, this represents an 11,250 BTC decline from the peak holdings. The government's total wallet value now stands at $113.7 million, including 1.034 ETH worth $1,820. This marks the latest publicly tracked transfer to a centralized exchange as the country continues to make periodic transfers, raising questions about potential liquidation of holdings. The timing coincides with bearish Bitcoin sentiment and ETF facing outflows, which could trigger short-term sell-off and FUD.
According to AMBCrypto's analysis, transfers from government to exchanges may cause concerns about short-term price pressure and increased supply. However, compared to the daily trading volume of Bitcoin, Bhutan's 533 BTC move is comparatively small, which limits its direct impact. Instead of declining confidence, these sales are frequently connected to treasury management or profit-taking. Similar actions by Germany, the U.S. government, or wallets connected to Mt. Gox have in the past created short-term volatility, though the real market impact was less significant than anticipated. Bitcoin was trading at $64,228.89 following a 1.96% decline over the previous day, with BTC ETF seeing $82.2 million in outflows, adding supply pressure to an already soft market.
According to Arkham's previous reporting, the government had moved 100.44 BTC worth $8.2 million to an unlabeled address last month. The analytics platform reported that outflows from wallets linked to Bhutan had exceeded $230 million since the start of 2026. Unlike most nation-state holders that accumulate Bitcoin through criminal seizures, Bhutan built its reserves through mining operations powered by hydroelectric energy. The country ranks as the seventh-largest known nation-state holder of Bitcoin, behind the U.S. (328,372 BTC), China (190,000 BTC), the UK (61,245 BTC), Ukraine (46,351 BTC), El Salvador (7,649 BTC), and the UAE (6,420 BTC), according to Bitcoin Treasuries data. If Bhutan continues cutting back on its holdings, investors might start to doubt Bhutan's long-term commitment to Bitcoin as a strategic asset.
