Healthy dishes now account for 7.5% of orders on food delivery platform Zomato, representing a significant increase from 5.3% two years ago, according to Sahibjeet Singh Sawhney, the company's marketing head. The platform has introduced a dedicated 'Healthy Mode' feature launched in September last year, available across seven cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune and Hyderabad. In the past one year, Zomato has delivered nearly 11 million orders through the Healthy Mode feature.
The adoption of healthy food items shows distinct demographic trends, with younger users driving faster growth. Among users below 25, the share of healthy dishes ordered increased from 3.9% to 6.4%, representing 62% relative growth. For customers aged above 25, the share rose from 5.7% to 8.4%, a 47% relative increase. According to Sawhney, customers who discover Healthy Mode show strong repeat behavior, with six in 10 customers returning to order within a month.
The healthy food segment is experiencing rapid supply-side growth alongside demand increases. Healthy restaurants recorded 18.7% order growth in this year's June quarter (April-June 2026) compared with the December quarter last year (October-December 2025). The number of restaurants offering healthy food items has grown 32%, compared with around 3.5% growth in Zomato's overall restaurant base. As reported by Business Standard, this expansion significantly outpaces the platform's overall restaurant growth rate.
Bengaluru leads in the share of healthy orders and the pace of growth in healthy ordering among the seven cities where Healthy Mode is available. According to Sawhney, the feature is being adopted particularly strongly by existing users compared with new users. The company does not view healthy ordering as necessarily replacing traditional food categories such as biryani, pizza or others, but rather as an additional use case. Future expansion plans will be determined by customer demand and restaurant supply growth.
