Wipro Limited has renewed its long-standing Digital Workplace Services contract with ABB, a global technology leader in electrification and automation. Building on an established relationship spanning multiple years, Wipro will continue delivering end-to-end AI-enabled Digital Workplace Services for ABB's global operations while further enhancing employee experience through advanced automation, AI-powered service capabilities, and workplace modernization. According to Wipro, the engagement will modernize ABB's digital workplace with AI-led, experience-centric capabilities delivered through Wipro's AI Live Workspace™ and Digital Workplace Services offerings, operationalized through WINGS, Wipro's AI-powered delivery platform for operations. The initial five-year contract, signed in February 2022, was valued at over $150 million to support 105,000 employees globally, with the renewal emphasizing AI-driven automation that is expected to lower operating costs and improve service delivery timelines. The companies have confirmed that the ABB deal had previously been included in Wipro's financial results announcement for the quarter and year ended March 31, 2026.
Under the renewed agreement, Wipro will continue to provide digital workplace services across ABB's global operations while adding more automation and artificial intelligence to employee support and device management. The work includes self-service tools, virtual agents, automated issue resolution and AI-assisted dispatch, alongside updates to workplace systems used by ABB staff. The arrangement focuses on ABB's internal technology environment for a workforce spread across multiple countries and roles, with Wipro using its Wipro Intelligence suite, including AI Live Workspace, SmartOps and its WINGS delivery platform to standardise services globally while adapting to local operational requirements. A key focus will be lifecycle management for employee devices, using telemetry and usage data to improve how devices are managed and refreshed while strengthening endpoint security operations. The partnership has transitioned from legacy managed workplace support to an AI-first, predictive, and autonomous operations framework, with Wipro deploying advanced agentic AI capabilities including Wipro Intelligence™ and AI Live Workspace™ to drive employee self-service and smart causal analysis.
Wipro Ltd is rolling out TimeScope, a software tool that tracks productivity on company-issued devices, including for employees working from home. According to an email sent to employees earlier this month, reviewed by Mint, the Bengaluru-based firm installed the tool for 5,000 employees around May and is now expanding to other associates. The software tracks time spent by employees on certain systems and can flag working days when no activity is recorded. This initiative comes as Wipro faces financial challenges, with operating margins declining for two consecutive quarters. The company reported 16% operating margins during April-June, down 130 basis points from the year-ago period. However, Wipro's Q1 FY27 net profit of ₹3,357 crore registered a 0.75% year-on-year increase, with revenue rising 10% to ₹24,479 crore, demonstrating cost management amid sluggish demand.
The renewed partnership reinforces Wipro's long-standing presence in the industrial and manufacturing sector, where enterprises are increasingly modernizing workplace operations to improve agility, productivity, and employee experience at a global scale. According to Wipro's Managing Director & Country Head of Switzerland Madhavan R, ABB and Wipro share a relationship that has grown over many years, anchored in trust, collaboration, and a common ambition to drive meaningful business outcomes. ABB's continued confidence in Wipro reflects the strength of this enduring partnership and their shared commitment to innovation. As AI becomes a defining force in the future of work, the companies are bringing together their expertise and AI-led Digital Workplace capabilities to help ABB create a more intelligent, automated, resilient and employee-centric workplace experience for colleagues across the globe. The contract extension represents a key strategic win for Wipro, proving its ability to successfully defend its existing customer base from aggressive tier-1 IT competitors by moving the ABB delivery model to an AI-led service framework.
Digital workplace contracts have become a more prominent part of IT services spending as large employers look to reduce disruption, support hybrid working and ease pressure on internal technology teams. For suppliers, these deals increasingly involve automation tools and AI-led support functions rather than traditional helpdesk work alone. According to Mint, the move reflects IT firms keeping closer watch on employee effort in their quest for productivity and returns from artificial intelligence and automation investments. The tool provides employees with access to digital activity data through a dashboard, enabling self-assessment of total time spent on devices, while tracking active time on work-related tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Chrome, and other Wipro-issued applications. Wipro's activity tracking tool has received mixed employee response, with some expressing concerns about data accuracy and the need for multiple time tracking systems. However, the outsourced digital workplace services sector is experiencing rapid transformation as legacy desk support is replaced by generative AI and automation, with IT firms competing to deliver zero-touch remediation, making proprietary AI frameworks a key differentiator for multi-year enterprise contracts.
