Vodafone Idea shares surged to a new record high on Monday, jumping more than 2% to hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹14.06 in morning trading. According to reports from The Economic Times, this marks the fifth consecutive session of gains for the telecom major, with the stock crossing the ₹14-mark for the first time since September 2024. The stock has demonstrated remarkable momentum with 9% gains in one week and a whopping 47% increase in just one month. Over the longer term, Vodafone Idea shares have delivered around 107% returns in one year, 100% in three years and more than 63% in five years, with the stock up over 20% so far in 2026.
The telecom major reported a net profit of ₹51,970 crore for the January-March quarter of FY2026, marking a significant turnaround from a net loss of ₹7,166 crore in the year-ago period. As reported by The Economic Times, this turnaround was primarily driven by a one-time accounting gain related to the reassessment of AGR dues and recognition of the present value of future AGR payments. The company's revenue from operations rose 3% year-on-year to ₹11,332 crore during the quarter ended March 31, 2026, compared to ₹11,017 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. EBITDA grew 4.9% YoY to ₹4,889 crore, while Average revenue per user (ARPU) rose to ₹190 from ₹175 in the year-ago quarter, marking an 8.3% increase.
According to Sudeep Shah, Head of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, as reported by The Economic Times, Vodafone Idea shares continue to trade well above its key short- and long-term moving averages, reflecting a strong bullish trend. The technical indicators show RSI at 84.75 and ADX at 65, indicating extremely elevated momentum levels where intermittent profit booking cannot be ruled out. Since hitting a low of ₹8.13 on April 2, the stock has rallied nearly 71%, highlighting strong buying interest. Shah noted that the stock has broken above its previous swing high of ₹10.25 and is sustaining above it, with the 12-12.5 zone expected to act as crucial support. The rising MACD histogram bars also reinforce the positive momentum, with the trend likely to remain bullish as long as the stock sustains above this range.
The stock's recent momentum has been supported by positive regulatory developments and leadership changes. As reported by The Economic Times, in the beginning of May, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) reduced the telco's adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues by 27% to ₹64,046 crore as of December 31, resulting in bullish calls for the stock. Additionally, the stock jumped after the company named billionaire industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla as its non-executive chairman, around five years after he resigned from the same role in the telecom giant amid financial stress.
