Vishnu Chemicals (VCL) has executed a definitive Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with DCX Chrome SAS, France (DCX), a globally renowned pioneer in the manufacturing of high-purity aluminothermic chromium metal and specialized chromium powders. According to reports from Business Standard, this partnership represents a significant step in India's specialty chemicals manufacturing sector. The collaboration enables Vishnu Chemicals to enter high-value export segments like aerospace, defense, and superalloys, leveraging the technical expertise of its French partner. As per the latest announcement, Chairman and Managing Director Krishna Murthy Cherukuri emphasized that this partnership marks a significant milestone in expanding VCL's footprint in specialty chemicals and bolstering India's manufacturing capabilities in the sector, contributing directly to India's vision of self-reliance. Mr. Siddartha Cherukuri, Joint Managing Director, confirmed that the material produced will be used in superalloys for aircraft engines, defence platforms, nuclear power equipment, land-based gas turbines, oil and gas drilling systems, chemical process equipment and other high-temperature or corrosion-resistant applications.
Under the terms of the JVA, VCL and DCX will establish a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, India. The plant is engineered to operate with a substantial installed capacity of 6,000 MTPA (Metric Tonnes Per Annum), dedicated entirely to producing high purity chromium metal. As reported by Business Standard, both companies will hold an equal 50% equity stake in the proposed joint venture company, with the newly formed Indian joint venture company owned equally by Vishnu Chemicals and DCX Chrome SAS in a 50:50 ratio. The facility's strategic location near VCL's existing chrome facility and Visakhapatnam port provides strong logistical benefits for raw material import and global export distribution. Fernando Accioly, CEO of DCX Chrome SAS, highlighted the partnership's significance, stating that the joint venture combines DCX's world-class aluminothermic technology and over 80 years of industrial expertise with VCL's robust operational excellence and raw material supply. The project will generate high-skilled engineering and operational employment in and around Visakhapatnam, directly advancing Andhra Pradesh's industrial development goals.
The venture, DCX Vishnu Private Ltd, involves a proposed investment of $20 million, with each partner contributing $10 million according to The Times of India. Under the shareholder arrangement, the managing director and chief financial officer will be nominated by DCX, which will run operations and lead global marketing of the product, while VCL will get equal board representation, including the positions of chairperson and director. Vishnu Chemicals joint managing director Siddartha Cherukuri confirmed that the material produced will be used in superalloys for aircraft engines, defence platforms, nuclear power equipment, land-based gas turbines, oil and gas drilling systems, chemical process equipment and other high-temperature or corrosion-resistant applications. The 50:50 shareholding structure indicates equal risk-sharing and technical/commercial alignment between Vishnu Chemicals and France's DCX Chrome SAS. The collaboration positions both partners to capitalize on long-term demand in the global aviation, nuclear energy, deep-water oil exploration, and chemical process industries.
The joint venture secures access to DCX's proprietary process technology, enabling domestic manufacturing to meet stringent global aerospace standards.
