Vedanta Power Ltd achieved its highest-ever quarterly power sales in Q2 FY27, with electricity sales rising 26% year-on-year to 5,593 million units compared to 4,433 MU in the same period last year. According to the latest reports, the company's first-half sales performance was even more impressive, registering 32% year-on-year growth to 10,817 million units driven by stronger plant performance and improved availability across its portfolio. This represents the company's strongest quarterly performance to date, supported by enhanced plant availability and higher utilisation across key assets.
The primary growth driver was a sharp increase in generation at Meenakshi Energy, with power sales surging 111% year-on-year to 1,470 million units in Q2. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, this performance reflects operations of the expanded 1,000-MW capacity base, strengthening the plant's contribution to the company's overall generation portfolio. For the first half of the fiscal year, Meenakshi Energy's sales reached 2,820 million units, up 160% year-on-year, demonstrating the plant's significant role in the company's expansion strategy.
The momentum was further supported by a significant turnaround at the Jharsuguda Thermal Plant, where power sales rose 186% year-on-year to 873 million units in the September quarter. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, sales during the first half increased 59% to 1,559 million units. Most notably, the plant's availability improved dramatically, with the plant availability factor rising to 98% in the quarter from 43% in the year-ago period, aiding higher generation and sales. This turnaround demonstrates the company's operational excellence in asset optimization.
The company is pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy as electricity demand rises across manufacturing, infrastructure and data centres. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, alongside these growth drivers, the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant continued to provide a strong and consistent operating base for the portfolio. The company remains focused on delivering reliable power while supporting India's growing and evolving energy requirements, with the expansion strategy positioning it well to capitalize on the increasing demand across various sectors.
